A true approach shoe in the classic mould: walking shoe comfort with rock shoe friction.

With lacing down to the toe and Five Ten's legendary Stealth C4 sticky rubber on the soles, the Guide Tennie clearly has climbing aspirations. However, the comfort and support come from the world of walking shoes. So, you can walk to the crags, scramble or climb all day on easier routes or, if you're on harder grades, clip them to your harness for the walk-off.

Much beloved of instructors who need all-day comfort in a shoe they can still use on more technical ground, the Guide Tennie is ideal for anyone whose exploits see them covering mixed terrain.

Very comfortable, well fitting shoe
Reviewed By Augustin, 08 Sep 2013

Bought this shoe to wear walking anywhere and everywhere as well as in the pub after a long walk and have so far found it extremely comfortable and smart enough to wear with jeans. A good purchase.

Superb but short lived
Reviewed By Jay, 29 Jun 2012

A very comfortable, light-weight shoe.

Tread is minimal and wears quickly so they are not particularly good on mud/moss, however the grip on rock is excellent.

They lack stiffness and precision compared to a rock shoe, however once broken in they smear superbly - fatastic on granite, grit, sandstone and slabs. Also pretty good in the climbing wall where you can smear over holds too small to edge on.

I wear mine daily for work; instructing indoors and out, and retire them for coasteering/gorge walking (they're as good as anything else on wet rock too) once they start looking too tatty.

I've yet to make a pair last beyond a year; climbing on them all the time wears out the rubber/upper joint above the little toe, considering they're worn daily I cannot see how they could be made more robust without signigficantly changing the fit, weight and performance.

I'm on my fifth pair, although I would like them to last longer they are still well worth the price.

The best shoes on the market
Reviewed By imogen, 30 Apr 2012

I got these shoes when I was 10, about a year and a half a go, and although I'm a child and don't use them as regularly as many adults would, they've lasted brilliantly. They are very comfortable and have great precision lacing, which I like after having my toes squashed by climbing shoes. Frequent approaches to the crag have really exposed them to rough ground but the Stealth C4 grips seem to look the same with no signs of wear. However sturdy they are though, they are still agile, and definitely capable of easy routes and scrambles. They look very similar to climbing shoes, with rubber toes and heels, to aid climbing precision, and a very slim profile for lightness and, again, scrambling and climbing. The only things I would change are the laces, which are a little slippy and knots unwravel easily, but otherwise, like it says above, the best shoes on the market.
