Good calorific value - twice as good as the reheat or eat cold brands.
No mess eating. (Only have to cook water).
Only need to use enough fuel to bring water to the boil. (Unlike cook-in-the bag)
Most meals very tasty and satisfying.
Good variety for week-long expeditions.
Vanilla pudding is a nice touch of decadence after a soggy day.
In situations where weight/fuel are at a premium, I'd choose these meals over the ready to eat variety.
Invariably have to add more water than directed, and even then (and with MUCH stirring) often find powdery layer at bottom of pouch.
In cold weather, food can cool too much whilst waiting for it to absorb the water, especially if you are having to keep opening the pouch to stir it like mad so that it will absorb the water.
Pouch opens too high for the level of cooked food, making it hard to reach the bottom with a spork. (Any reason why the tear strip cannot be lower down? or even better, two tear strips)
Some meals have an unpleasant aftertaste (though this might be related to hydration level as noted above).
