Let me think for a moment
Reviewed By Gon, 11 Oct 2014

I have had these boots for about two and a half years walking over the north Kent Downs, wet grass, standing water, mud, bullets, torrential rain, snow and ice. For a couple of inches at mid length point, along both sides of both boots the uppers have come away from the rands. Inspite regular Nikwax treatments the leather is cracked at the point of flex and to date, inspite of wearing them daily for not less than 6 miles per day for the last 14 days I have had completely dry feet whilst on occasions the rest of me has been wetter than I care to mention. The boots were comfortable out of the box and I have never had a blister, sore patch or anything else of a discomforting nature. The sole tread on grass and mud has been great as has been the support provided to my ankles over some really uneven summer heat baked ground. That was the good news. now for the BAD NEWS. The rubber compound used for the soles provides frighteningly inadequate traction on damp slab stone paths and damp pavements where I would be too scared for my own safety to even run for a bus (not that I ever could!) In short, on any solid stone or macadam surface they are downright dangerous. This has been commented on in many other store reviews. However, as 95% of my walking is off the highway and because of their comfort and waterproof capability I am seriously considering another pair for everything other than mid winter snow walking when a more thermally effective pair of boots will be sourced. Now that these boots have died I am now slapping loads of dubbin on them and pouting it into the cracks and points of rand de-bonding and quite expect them to see me through everything nature can throw at me until the snow falls, wherupon I will revert to my tried and trusted 17 year old HiTec Altitude Lite II WP's

Disappointed
Reviewed By Derek, 26 May 2013

These boots have poor grip, also a small lump of the sole unit at the front has come away on one boot. I have used them only eight times, walking the Rhinogs in Wales, and in Scotland, four munros and a corbett. They do not provide confidence on rough ground.

Comfy+Durable+Easy Cleaning = Brilliant for DofE
Reviewed By Dafydd, 06 Mar 2012

I used these staright from the box on my silver dofe. My old pair of boots broke the week earlier when I was climbing. These were and still are brilliant. I had no blisters after spending 3 days walking around Snodonia National Park and I bought these down there the day before I started. People who had well broken in boots were in more pain than I was.

Great looking walking boot and very comfortable

I have just bought this product spending long and hard looking for the right pair. This is one very comfortable boot and as my girlfriend said... a pair that actually look really good too.

Durable All Terrain
Reviewed By Vincent, 02 Dec 2011

Recently I have taken the leap from amateur landscape photographer to semi-pro. With this move came a lot more travel to more rugged terrains. One of the areas I was headed to recently was the Brecon Beacons in Wales. I had planned to spend three days out there exploring the amazing waterfalls and some of the longer walks through its countryside. To do this I needed some new kit that included boots and gaiters.

I went to Cotswolds in Bournemouth with the idea of purchasing a pair of walking boots. The pair I originally wanted turned out to be unsuitable for what I wanted. The expert help in the store put me on the right path. What I needed was a pair of boots that were durable, waterproof, and still hold their comfort at the end of the day. I purchased the Berghaus Explorer Ridge GTX on the advice of a Cotswold sales person and I am more happy with my purchase. The boots are far exceeding my expectations and meet all of the above criteria.

Comfort and durability
Reviewed By Lance, 28 Nov 2011

The structure of these boots is more like that of a fabric boot, but with the leather outer they are so much easier to get the mud off. The result is a comfy boot which is not afraid of British mud.
