A Great Trouser
Reviewed By Ankit, 18 Feb 2014

I bought these trousers prior to embarking on a week of Winter Scottish Mountaineering. I was exposed to extreme weather conditions - including strong winds (30-50mph), low temperatures (well below freezing) and heavy precipitation (rain and snow).

The trouser dealt with this extreme weather with ease and kept me dry and warm throughout the whole week. Whether the rain was vertical or horizontal it didn't penetrate the membrane.

As well as its main hardshell purpose the additional design of the full length zips are a brilliant feature which allow breathability but also assist in the adjustments of gaiters and crampons. They are good quality zips which feel like they will last the long-haul.

I was confident to sit in the snow and wet as I was sure no water would penetrate - an essential component of good equipment is that it can be trusted and I definitely trusted these trousers.

The final point to make - clearly there is a range of more pricey trousers out there. I think the Hellvelyn Pant represents a good value for money for a reliable & trustworthy piece of kit. They fit well and are comfortable to wear allowing for stretching movements whilst rock & ice climbing for example.

Overall a great purchase which I strongly recommend.

The Right Trousers!

I have had the Helvellyn from Berghaus for about a year now and they are proving an outstanding purchase. So versatile they've kept me both warm and dry whilst hacking around the golf course or canoeing through Scottish Lochs and Rivers (and they are really wet). Durability is great, they wont snag or tear no any little brambles and the adaptability created by the full length zips is such a simple but effective idea. Good job with these Berghaus.

Worn them for an hour or so pretty much every day for the last month and I’m very happy with these waterproof trousers. Many of those walks have been in heavy storms with full on sideways rain and they’ve always repelled it without hesitation.
I usually get too hot but I have no such troubles with these as they breathe really well and the full length zips add a refreshing breath of fresh air when required.
I was told they’re supposed to be over trousers but I’ve been using them on their own and find them extremely comfortable – they have a mesh lining so they don’t stick to you or anything.
I’ve brushed past quite a few thorns and bushes unscathed so they seem fairly robust too.
Pockets would be a bonus but I’m still giving them 5 stars.

An overall success

I purchased these recently for my ML Assessment. They are a great cut with a sleak fit. By far the best feature are the 3/4 length zips on either side which make for easy deployment when required. A down side is the robustness of the material. I found after my first use from kneeling down these is a slight abrasion/hole in the knee. This aside they look great and repel water like a dream. Highly recommended and at a good price.

Really Excellent
Reviewed By Andrew, 12 Jan 2013

Some really excellent waterproofs, really easy to get on and off, and keep you dry in all weathers. You can keep them on when the sun comes out to as they are really breathable, and you can undo the zips at bottom and top, if it really get warm. The colour is navy rather than black, which causes a bit of a miss match. All in all this is a great set of waterproof trousers!

Tip top trousers

These pants are a little more than the competitors but they are definitely worth it; hard wearing, breathable, comfortable and with Goretex instead of Berghaus's own brand

Excellent Waterproof Trousers
Reviewed By Jonathan , 10 May 2012

These trousers are brilliant have used them on many occasions and have never failed me in light rain to down pours. Very easy to get on and off too. The kick patches are really good if you are thinking about using them for ice climbing and snow use when wearing crampons also at the bottom there are 2 buttoned bits on each let so you can change how the trousers sit on your boots.
Overall a great pair of trousers which will get many years of use.
