The Black Diamond Spot 130 Headtorch is ready for everything from late-night rappels to pre-dawn ski tours.

With 130 lumens of bright, fully adjustable light, the Spot also features the PowerTap Technology, which allows for quick, on-the-fly brightness adjustments with just a finger tap to the side of the Spots touch sensitive housing. The bright, powerful beam is ideal for finding anchors while climbing or illuminating the trail when walking, while its proximity mode handles camp tasks, tent reading and gearing up at the car.

A handy lock mode keeps the light from turning on accidentally in your pack or pocket.

Does the job.

I've had several head touches over the years and to be honest, they're all a compromise between brightness and size. LED has made a real difference but two of the main challenges are changing the batteries and switching it on/off. With a relatively big on/off switch this is quite easy to operate, but not with gloves on. That said, it's a small device and if you expect to use it with gloves on you need to re-evaluate your expectations! I have had no trouble with changing the batteries but, if it was very easy it'd probably not be waterproof. The batteries last a long time but, if you know you're gonna be out over night, put fresh ones in before you go and take spares. It's not rocket science. A good head strap and not too heavy so great for walking with a good range. You can get better but, with that come a bigger price tag so, if you have a specialist use, get specialist gear and pay the price. This torch survived 3 nights on Dartmoor without a battery change and didn't let me down once. It does the job and it does it well, I wouldn't spend any more and for the money, this is an excellent buy.

Over complicated, unreliable, poorly thought out

This just cannot be relied upon in a mountain situation! Not fit for purpose.

As already mentioned, getting the back off is a nightmare and the "manual" is no help. The modes are absurdly fussy, but more importantly it can get stuck (of its own accord), in one you definitely don't want, and then you have not a snowball's chance in hell of getting it out of it. The tap technology is unbelievably flaky, while you have very little chance of getting the brightness you want.

Not up to normal Black Diamond quality or reasoning.

Not suitable for me

I agree that this is one of the brightest torches for the money but I have found that the battery cover is very difficult to open - I use a knife - and that it is flimsy. The batteries have to be removed for travelling as it switches on very easily, even in my rucksack. Not for me.

very very good torch - does all that is needed

excellent torch. very bright main spotlight beam. wider beam for close work. easily (totally) variable power adjustment (on the red light too) even wearing gloves. default start up is at 75% power which is clever for battery life. can use rechargeable batteries. (I need to use a coin or similar to open battery pack.) and a very comfortable head strap! I haven't yet swum wearing it so waterproofing not yet tested fully.
