Fantastic, cozy baselayer.
Reviewed By Lizzie, 14 Apr 2013

I purchased the twin-pack primarily due to the fact it was on offer, reduced from £110 to £75 for a merino-blend baselayer. I sturggled to select a baselayer, as the sport it is for (archery), is generally an inactive sport, and so wicking qualities are generally redundant. What I needed was warmth, comfort and free movement for my arms when I was shooting.

The first thing that struck me was the fitting of the clothing. Being 6 foot, usually finding womens clothing that fits in the generic sizes is a struggle! Be aware these baselayers run very long in the arm and torso for the top, and a very long (generous?) rise for the bottoms, with probably a 33" inside leg (I'm a 36" and I can -just- get away with the length).

They fit like a glove, fit snug against the body but not so tight they restrict. The neck is very fitted (so much so squeezing your head through the neck can be interesting the first time), further reducing heatloss. Analyzing the clothing from a fit point of view- the leggings fit like tights and the top like a skinny fit long sleeve top, with a tight waist. I am a UK size 12-14 (more 12), and ordered a large- perfect size for the bottoms, the top is slightly baggy in parts.

As for performance? Superb alone, or in combination with other baselayers- for example, I wear the merino baselayer, underarmour coldgear compression top, berghaus baselayer t shirt, cotton top and a berghaus duck feather and down gilet- and when stood in a field inactive can happily be there in temperatures of only 7-14 degrees with bracing winds! I would warm people that after todays experience, these layers are certainly not to be worn on a day with the temperature above 12 degrees, or you'll overheat- simple.

The clothing itself is also very comfortable to wear: I bought a blend set as I wouldn't benefit from pure merino wool clothing, and it was seriously more expensive! But with over half merino wool, the benefits are clear. The 'Lifa' polyester (that is against your skin, and the wool on the outside) makes it totally smooth and a pleasure to wear. No itchy wool against skin!

Overall? Fantastic. And if like me, you were debating which baselayer to buy- try this one; it worked for me and I don't even participate in a particularly active sport. I couldn't tell you what hiking or walking in them would be like- but they feel like a second skin when I have them on. The only concern I would have would be the sizing- they run very long (in sleeve and leg length), but true to size.
