Exploration was very different in 1974. Outdoor kit was heavier, less adaptable, and less effective. Only a lucky few could call themselves “adventurers”. Since then we’ve walked into a world straight out of science-fiction.

We have tents that weigh less than 1 kilogram, watches that can navigate and ultra-warm jackets that fold into their own pockets. But there are a few things that haven’t changed. Our commitment to expert service, cutting-edge

technology and having the widest choice of kit are the same as ever. Where you go with it - what adventures you have - is up to you.

Cotswold stores are starting to open up across the country and in 1991 five stores are open to the public. With increased access, the nation’s love for the outdoors and adventure continues to grow.

Named 'Retail Company of the Year’ by Go Outdoors in 2005 and later voted ‘Best Chain Retailer’ by The Great Outdoors Magazine for both 2012 and 2013.

Always at the forefront of innovation in the outdoor industry, Cotswold embraces innovations in the technology industry. The mobile website places the same great service, range and value in the palm of your hand.

After 40 years with 1400 outdoor enthusiasts and stores across the UK, we look back at our biggest achievements and thank everybody who made it possible. We still promise to bring you the latest innovations, the best service and the greatest choice for all the years to come.

Building on a decade of product knowledge and experience, the first mail order catalogue is launched. Cotswold camping equipment is now available to a nationwide audience.

As the world faces a new millennium, the website is launched. Like the first catalogue sixteen years before, now even more people can get the kit they need to go out and start their own adventures.

Based in a small outbuilding near Cirencester, Cotswold Camping, as it was originally known quickly became a local leader in providing top quality outdoor equipment and invaluable expert advice.

With a firm dedication to great service, exceptional kit and leading brands Cotswold Outdoor reaches 30 stores, whilst the online presence continues to grow as the first decade of the new millennium comes to a close.
