stylish and well fitted is a bonus for sure, but what makes this coat is when i walk out the door, the gore tex means i'm staying dry, and this breathable fabric means i'm heading high, the top of a fell, or all round the lake, with this (bargain price!!) coat on an adventure i'll take!

Great Bag when weight and size is an issue

Got these for my honeymoon to Tanzania. Had weight restrictions (15kg each) and had to be soft bags for the local flights out to Safari location. Ideal choice. Great price and about the lightest you can get. Everything we needed for 2 weeks away on safari and the at the beach for the 2 of us fitted easily into 2 of these with space left over and we were under the weight limit. Both bags took a beating during our travels and are fine part from some marks on the surface.

Would highly recommend if you need a lightweight soft bag.

Great kit bag

Bought this bag to use as a kit bag for kayaking trips and transporting climbing an walking kit when using the train. The rucksack straps are very useful for this, and are detachable, which is good if your going to put it in a plane hold.
The dry pocket comes in useful for separating wet/dirty and dry/clean kit :)
The material the bag is made of feels tough and has certainly held up to the abuse its taken so far :)
The compression straps are great for when its half full and you want to use it as a rucksack as they stop everything from collecting at the bottom of the bag.
The only problem I have had with the bag was the zip pulls to the main compartment as after a few uses the string started slipping from the plastic toggles. No worries thought as I replaced them with paracord.

Great Bag, not as indestructible as it seems...

I bought this popular holdall to use as my main kit bag for trekking in Nepal. The tough waterproof material survived alot of battering as it was dragged around by porters and all my kit was kept fantastically dry in the monsoon rain!
The internal divider is great for keeping damp and dirty clothes separate to clean and there is plenty of space to fill it with as much kit as you want! The rucksack straps are a quite uncomfortable and I would not recommend using this holdall if you plan to carry it on your back for long periods.

The main problem I had with this bag was that I discovered it had a hole about 5 inches long where the stitching along one of the seams had ripped apart. The only explanation I could think of was that it must've caught on something when the porters were carrying it.
Despite this happening, I was able to temporarily fix the bag using some strong tape. I have not been put off this bag. I got back to the UK and Cotswold allowed me swap it with a brand new Wet & Dry 100L Kit Bag which I will make frequent use of for many trips in the future!

Monster kit bag.

I ordered the 100 litres as it comes with the ruck sack style handles for carry across your shoulders as well as the normal hand carrying ones. I know the 75 litre does as well but you can never have too much space! It arrived a day after placing the order and is an awesome piece of kit. Very well made, it should last a lifetime and the split inner is a brilliant idea. It can also be used to seperate clean and dirty gear too. All in all, a highly recommended kit bag and a third off the price too!

Fantastic hold all

Really good bag, good size and number of pockets. Tough and stood up really well against being thrown around. The compression straps were brilliant, reducing the size of the pack for shorter trips away. Overall a decent bit of kit.

Great all rounder!

Both myself and my brother use these bags to get kit between home and bases and they stand up to all environments from the hills to the desert and even to being rammed in a submarine. Perfect for anyone who travels regularly and needs a spacious yet not awkward holdall.

Best duffel on sale today!

This bag is great for all types of travel ranging from a small local camping trip to a prolonged overseas trek. The material is extremely durable and waterproof (only the seam and zips will leak). They are truly great in terms of size and will compress down when only filled to about 3/4 capacity. I have had mine for about 5 years now and i can't find so much as a scratch on the surface, the shoulder straps are very useful for carry the bag and i can very often slide my tent inside the bag to protect it when travelling by plane. The water resistant inner pocket is great for use when canoeing with moist or damp kit but would advise against putting anything soaking wet inside as the water resistant zip can leak. Overall an unfailing bit of kit that is already a classic!

Great bags!

These bags are amazing, they are so much better for travelling (unless you are hiking with it a lot) than a traditional rucksack as it's much easier to get things in and out. In a rucksack you have to pull everything out to get to items near the middle or bottom of the bag.

These are extremely waterproof and very hard-wearing. I've been using mine for a while now all over Ethiopia and apart from a coating of dust it is in top-notch condition.

There is a nice amount of room for keeping documents etc safe, and it's like a Tardis inside - very voluminous!

The straps are well padded so this is easy and comfortable to carry on 1 shoulder. If you've really loaded it you can use the 2 rucksack-style straps and it sits nicely on your back.

Not a bad word to say about this!

well thought out jacket

ME have done well with the design of this jacket, it's geared more towards climbing than any other activity due to the 2 alpine pockets are very useful indeed, but the venting aspect of them does have a tendency to let in cold. The storm zips are very slick to use compared to others. The cut of the sleeves and chest give a lot of freedom of movement and good space for layers underneath. The main drawback of this jacket I have found is the gore tex, it has de-laminated alarmingly fast and gets clogged easily. The hood isn't very effective and is actually quite uncomfortable to wear. The size and weight of this smock make it a very attractive option for low weight ascents, but again the low weight has the effect of lessening the waterproofing to some extent, I have had water seep into my midlayers whilst wearing this smock..

Functionality in style

Another quality, well designed piece of kit from Mountain Equipment: Super lightweight and packs down to not much larger than a drinks can without compromise on functionality. The new Active Shell fabric is extremely breathable for those steep mountain hikes (though I found I still needed the pit zips when trekking with a heavy load), yet the GORE TEX fabric lives up to its reputation when faced with driving wind and rain (we’re talking 50mph+ here).

The mountain hood fit my helmet no problem and is easily adjusted by pulling the elastic cords without having to fiddle around with the plastic adjusters, which is handy when wearing gloves. The hood is also sturdy in high winds when adjusted snug despite the lightweight fabric. The two pockets are large enough to get your map in but they are partly mesh lined so you’ll need a little plastic bag in them if before you put your wet gloves in.

All in all a great piece of kit for the price that will hold out in the worst conditions with a fit and style that’s just as good for wearing around town.

Perfect for running

I have been searching for a waterproof jacket for running but they either tended to be waterproof but quite a heavy weight or were lightweight but only windproof - until now! I was lucky enough that my wife bought it me for my birthday even though I felt a little guilty at the price tag. I wore it for the first time the other day on a three hour run on Kinder Scout and even through some pretty tough exertion the jacket breathed perfectly not once feeling saturated and kept the wind and rain (pretty heavy at times) out at all times. The cut of the jacket is perfect, nice and fitted around the torso which didn't once ride up the back under the running backpack whilst the cut of the arms provided unrestricted movement even when scrambling up the side of a mountain or arms flailing to keep balance on the run back down. I only have a small head and can sometimes have problems getting hoods to fit properly but the hood of this was easily adjusted to fit snuggly and even whilst 'on the hoof'! I would say this jacket is worth its weight in gold but it doesn't weigh enough!!

Very light and waterproof

I purchased this jacket to compete in the TransAlp Mountain bike race in the Alps and on the 2 days conditions were awful the jacket combined with a fleece were perfect at altitudes of 2000m. However I used this jacket to climb Tryfan in North Wales on a day that it rained non stop and although I stayed dry and warm the jacket material really seems to climg on to the wetness on the outside and stayed wet for ages unlike my wife's Rab goretex jacket which seemed to dry instantly once out of the rain and given a good shake. If the fireforx had the same surface repelent of other goretex jackets I'd have given this a 5 star review.

Featherlight jacket

If you're someone who gets hot and sweaty when wearing waterproofs then this is the jacket for you. It is so light you really have to see it to believe that it's 3-layer goretex! The jacket also has pit zips to help you regulate your temperature. The description says it's good for "done in the day" activities and although most people will ogle the high end mountaineering jackets suitable for the high himalaya I would say this jacket is perfect for 90% of British scenarios. A real breakthrough in the world of sweaty waterproofs. Well done Gore and Mountain Equipment.
