Great solid head torch

I find this head torch really comfy, the lighting system is great (red light is a good feature), and it is also hardwearing! Would recommend.

Great trorch for all uses

For the price of this torch I was expecting high performance and this torch has certainly exceeded my expectations. With a maximum light output of 160 lumens and power regulation to maximise battery life without compromising on light output you get what you pay for. You can use rechargeable batteries meaning that you won’t need to purchase battery after battery. The head strap is fully adjustable with an additional optional strap that goes over the top of your head providing the best possible fit. With several light levels you can go from reading a map to looking across fields with the push of a button. You can also reprogram which light levels you want ranging from 8 lumens to 140 lumens with a boost function bringing the light output up to 160 lumens. Being IP4 rated and only 175g with batteries installed it can be taken anywhere. I would recommend this head torch to anyone.

Head Torch moves to top pocket item!

Remember when head torches were bulky and heavy, lived at the bottom of your ruck with the first aid kit and were one of the reasons why your Scottish winter pack just seemed so huge? No more! This one comes with a pull out, self reloading elastic string rather than head band, meaning it is so compact it can live in the top pocket of your rucksack with the compass and the whistle, ready to deploy swiftly when that route just takes a bit longer than you planned. Beats emptying out all your kit in a hooley on the Cairngorm plateau! If that's not your bag, be assured this torch, compact as it is, provides all the power you need to navigate and the economy setting is more than enough for any general task. Easy to use and well designed, this is great product.

Excellent torch

Just been out through the forest as dusk fell, and it certainly exceeds my expectations. On economy setting it provides more than enough light, and there is the higher setting available. It produced enough light for two people to be able to walk safely. The dog didn't need it; all I could see was two silver orbs blinking occasionally amidst the trees.. No idea about battery life yet, but the excellent man in Durham told me he was still on his initial set of batteries after three years!

Excellent value head torch

Having bought Petzl head torches before I chose the Tikkina 2 because I expected it to provide good quality for the very reasonable price and I can certainly say I wasn't disappointed. The batteries were easy to load, it was comfortable and gave a good output for use in a tent and wandering around the campsite at night.

I also tried it out on some night navigation and found it excellent for close up map work, as well as for surveying the area as we checked for features to navigate by. Given it's low cost I was impressed by the distance of visibility the torch gave on its main beam setting. The economic setting was also more than adequate for reading maps and other close work, and had less impact on my night vision when used to check the map so it took less time to readjust once the torch was off.

Quality basic head torch

In terms of light output this torch surpassed my expectations. From the 23 lumen output quoted in the description I assumed it would be good for nothing but map reading, cooking and use inside the tent. In use however the full power option is more than sufficient to light the ground ahead when walking and even illuminate objects several metres away. This will not replace a more powerful handheld torch such as a LED Lenser Police Tech Focus in terms of range or light output but it compliments it very well.

As you would expect from the Petzl brand, the build quality is very good. It feels sturdy and well made. It is one of the lightest head torches I have used and as a result is very comfortable to wear. I did worry that the single strap wouldn't offer adequate stability but it actually works very well and the torch is held securely without the strap needing to be excessively tight.

Overall, as a basic head torch to compliment a powerful handheld torch for general use around camp and when walking I would very highly recommend the Petzl Tikkina 2. It isn't the brightest or most featured packed on the market hence only a four star rating but for £20.00 it is an ideal budget option.

These are noticeably smaller and lighter than the older version and work very well. It's worth speaking to an instructor at the wall before belaying a leader as it takes a while to get anywhere near as quick at paying out slack as with a normal belay plate.

Lives up to most expectations

A lot of people will say that the original Grigri is still the way to go and to an extent I agree, however it's down to personal needs. My local climbing wall uses 11mm ropes on top rope which is the top end the Grigri 2 can take and I find that it struggles to cope with the thickness especially when the ropes are getting older. Personally I wouldn't use the Grigri 2 with any rope bigger than 10mm thick. When it comes to leading though when I am using either my 9.2mm or my 10mm rope the Grigri 2 works extremely well. Operating is just the same as the original but it seems to be slightly smoother and more sensitive, so as long as you are using thin ropes I would go with the Grigri 2 and save that little bit on space and weight.

I cant wait to try it climbing. My previous helmet was quite heavy so i will hardly ever wear it.

How do you change batteries on your Head Torch?

When it's dark...solution, get out your elite and use it to see while your doing it. After an extended walk around some North Wales Mountains, I found the need to change the batteries in my Tikka XP head torch.

I hadn't thought about it before, but how do you work in the dark on your main head torch? Fortunately I had an elite in my rucksack waistband, and I used it to change my batteries. It was the first time I'd used it in anger, and I found it brilliant. You could use it to walk with in an emergency, but it is an emergency lite after all, so isn't as good for this as most dedicated constant use torches.

I'm glad I bought mine and wouldn't be without it now. Personally I would suggest changing the batteries in it every 2 years as a precaution, you don't want to be needing it and finding the cells have died.

Oh and Cotswold, if you lowered the price, I think you'd find you'd sell loads more of these :-)

Sooooo Small

You can take it anywhere as it is just tiny. Obviously its not massively powerful but it can get you home if needed and good enough for most things; especially emergencies. the stobe is useful if walking along a road and the red light good not not loosing your night vision. Only downsides are its quite expensive for a little unit and can be very fiddly if you have gloves on.

The torch equivalent of the Swiss army knife

I am a climber, runner and I am currently doing my silver Duke of Edinburgh award; this touch is useful in all of these situations. It is very light weight making it suitable for night running, due to its light design it does not bob up and down when you run, yet it is not ideal for when you may need to see further than around 10m in the distance; I now use it as secondary light when running; to go round my waste as a back light, on wrist or on the upper arm. I use the red flash in all these cases. I have found it very useful on the odd accession when you say “we can fit another route in”. You fit the route in but getting of the crag is a different issue; yet the e+LITE is there to guide you back to the car. I have also bought this light on several acations when you don’t know what to get someone for their birthday; the e+LITE is a safe bet.

Fantastic Gadget

Earlier last year i was seeking a new head torch, i wanted something, small, light weight and had enough gadgetry to keep me occupied and that could be added to my small pack of survival at the ready tools. And this cute but fantastic lil head torch fitted all of those characteristics that i was looking for, it is small, how small well like they say the size of a 50 pence coin, which was brilliant as when taking a lot of kit on big expeditions or camping trips it comes in handy being that it can fit into anything and everything. It is also shock proof and water resistant to a meter which is another nice feature as i tend to use it a fair amount when i take it for kayaking in my emergency kit, as it tends to get checked around a fair bit but stands the tough ruble and tumble with ease.
One great feature that i do love about the e+LITE is that it has a snap on attachment integrated into it, so if you wanted to attach it to your chest strap on your rucksack then you can do this with ease as this then allows you to have another head torch on or even on the back of your rucksack where you could place it if traveling at night on the road or out on the moor then you've got the added bonus of a red or white strobe light that allows othe
