Great compact design.

Fantastic lightweight design. Non-stick pan version is best where it is available. Meths burner slower than the gas version, but saves on weight.

Perfect starter and then some cooking apparatus

If you are looking for that piece of kit to start you off or even just a change then I reccommend the Trangia 25 UL. I have travelled all round the uk with this piece of kit weighing in less than one kilogram. Being able to cook a variety of meals. It cleans easily and heats quickly. The Trangia quality in engineering and design is clear. I wouldnt change it for the world :)

A classic design

I was using one of these over 30 years ago and I think mine is almost that old and it still works perfectly, because thre's nothing that can go wrong with it - all my original components are still fine. Aside from the lighter alloy in the new version the design hasn't changed at all, so I guess they got that right first time. Not as quick as a gas stove, but it doesn't take all that long to heat a pot of water. So long as you have a source of ignition - lighter, matches - it won't let you down.

Great for camping

Including two pans and a frying pan (that doubles up as a lid) you can cook a good meal on this, that's why it's suitable for camping where you have time. It's slower than some other stoves but it's reliable and all packs down into one of the pans, it's also fairly light weight. Methylated spirit is easy to get hold of in many countries meaning it's suitable for use on holiday where you need something light and easy to carry but have a bit extra time. It's also very easy to use as you simply fill the burner with spirit then light it, unlike many other compact stoves Trangias are very stable as the pan is held by four prongs coming out of the wind guard which is set on the floor. All parts can easily be replaced even though they are very hard wearing. Many groups use these stoves for expeditions such as for the Duke of Edinburgh Award due to their light weight and durability.

Nothing to go wrong, simple and perfect

I've owned this little beauty for about 8 months now and can honestly say it is the one I take with me whenever I go out to the hills.

Pros.
Light, simple, easy to use, easy to obtain fuel, robust and safe

Cons.
Takes a little longer to boil your kettle than some other fuels.

The packed size of this stove is small enough that I leave it in the top pocket of my rucksack all the time. On long trips or in winter I take a litre of meths, for short trips just 500 ml.

The stove packs into its own aluminium pot with the frypan lid clipping over the top. You get a lightweight aluminium combined heatshield/potstand into which the burner is placed. There is also a really lightweight pot grab which feel almost as insubstantial as a pair of tweezers, yet is still capable of safely lifting the pot when full of boiling water.

To use, simply pour sufficient meths (about 30-50 ml) into the burner and place the burner in the stand. Light and place you pot of water (stew, soup) on the stand. For a quicker boil use the frypan as a lid. In windy conditions I got a full pot of water (about 850 ml) to the boil in about seven minutes. You should note that it takes nearer ten without the lid.

Conclusion.
Unless you are cooking

brilliant device

for years we have loved our trangia, then someone mentioned this.... it might seem expensive but it has changed the cooking experience! Now I can cook for 4 in about 1/2 hour rather than 1 and 1/2 hours. The trangia has to have a hole in the side of the base - some of the older versions don't. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to cook safely but quickly. (also a lot less messy than meths to clean the pans!)

Solid little kettle.

I have owned this kettle for four years now, have just dug it up to check it's good to go for another trip and it's fine. I drink a LOT of tea, and along with Pot Noodles, washing water, using on the gas cooker at home during snowy power cuts and so on, I've given this kettle some serious road time. It has never burnt through and would probably last another couple of years. It's lightwieght, sturdy, and fits a lot of teabags inside it! Well worth the money.
