Mens Shadow Hoodie

The Shadow Hoodie is a durable, great-fitting mountain fleece that offers excellent wind-resistance combined with maximum stretch and movement. This rugged 'superfleece' from Rab has enhanced wind and abrasion resistance utilising Polartec Wind Pro® fabric and Hardface technologies. The fact that Polartec Wind Pro® doesn't use a membrane ensures that the Shadow Hoodie is still incredibly breathable whilst being 4 times more wind-resistant than standard fleece - so perfect for active pursuits in all conditions. As an ideal mid layer to wear when climbing, the Shadow Hoodie is cut to fit comfortably under a harness and for added protection from wind, the hood fits snugly under a helmet. The cuffs have integrated thumb loops too, preventing sleeves riding up when you stretch.

Brilliant!

I wore my rab shadow hoodie for a whole week in snowdonia, it upsets me to ever take it off. It performed really well as a mid layer up snowden on a terrible winter day with a latok alpine over the top. Good for drizzle with the water resistant finish. I really love the hood, I was unsure about the hood, but it fits really well on your neck when down and way better than any hat when up, the system works so well to keep your temperature just right. Also I loved being able to vent hot air by opening the zips on the front. I don't think anyone could make a better mid layer.

Best bit of kit I have

This is a superb piece of kit, very versatile good on the mountains and smart on the high Street. Buy it

Will become an essential part of your kit

I bought this from the local Cotswold store, I soon came to realise that I would use it much more often than previous fleeces thanks to its design and comfort. It will become even more comfortable after first wash. Arm neck length are ideal to help with the colder days out there. Better wind protection it's true however not as warm as other regular fleeces so beware of this. Five stars because it's really been a great acquisition and I can't say I find any issues with it. Design also allows it easily under an outer shell should you need it when rain or weather change. Not waterproof or water resistant. I think it dries quicker than regular thicker fleeces however not as quick as other synthetic garments due to still being a fleece after all. As a summary this is a good fit for every occasion

Fantastic multipurpose fleece

I have owned a Shadow Hoodie for over a year now; whilst initially reticent to spend such a large amount on a fleece, it has proven itself as a very versatile item of clothing. Earlier reviews referred to switching around the hem on the wrists coming undone but I have not suffered that with my fleece.

On very windy days, you would benefit from throwing a windproof layer over the top but I have worn this fleece from summer through to winter. The DWR lasted very well but I have only washed the fleece in 'technical' detergent.

Highly recommended as a piece of clothing for use hiking, camping and on the way to the office.

Well worth the price!

I've had this top for about 3 years now and finally got around to doing a review...

It's of very good quality material and considering it is very thin and light it does a fantastic job of keeping you warm. i have used it for hiking and D of E including Gold level and it is a great piece of kit, often only walking in this and a t-shirt underneath.

The small pocket is very useful for a phone or compass etc as it's in easy reach and the 1/2 zip makes it easy to pull on and off and also to control your temperature whilst walking.

The thumb holes are abother great feature, keeping your wrists warm and if your wearing gloves no air gets up your arms whatsoever.

All round a very good top and well worth the price!

Great dry midlayer or summer top

I have had one of these for a while now and was so impressed that I also bought the hooded version. Light weight, excellent thermal properties and very quick drying; all essentials when hiking up in the hills for a few days. There's nothing worse than sitting round in damp clothing, in your evening camp, when the temperature is dropping. This top ensures you don't! Truly a great top. Highly recommended.

An excellent addition to the walker's wardrobe

As a keen walker there are many occasions where I get too warm to wear a mid-layer, yet it's too cold to wear just a base-layer. This top is the ideal compromise. Other than the sleeves being a touch too long for my liking (but this is a matter of taste & fit) I have nothing but praise for this top. A worthy addition to the Rab stable. Hill walking is a lot more enjoyable wearing this top!

Extremley comfortable

This is one of these tops that when you put it on you instantly feel warmer. It is extremley comfortable and can be worn on top of a base layer or even just on it's own. What is good though is that as warm as it keeps you it doesn't seem to make you sweat or become over heated, so although it doesn't claim to be breathable it does the same job. A very comfortable top whether it is for outside in the elements or for everyday use. I don't normally look at Rab products as I know they can be expensive but this is certainly good value for money.

Top class fleece

Bought in store at sale price - but well worth the full price; I use the fleece as a top layer for cool weather cycling and walking, but it's so light and comfortable that it's great for general use. The fit is close but works very well in conjunction with a wicking base layer.

A great buy for the price

I have owned a Double Pile jacket for about 3 years now. It's not a technical jacket as it's quite bulky, but it keeps you warm when out and about in cold weather. The wind proof lining in the front panels and arms, and the high neck collar with drawcords are a bonus when walking into a cold wind. The berber pile is good if caught in a shower as you can shake the water off like a big shaggy bear, but it is not designed to be waterproof. A well made jacket for general outdoor use.

This jacket is "The Business"

I recently purchased the double pile jacket after starting to feel the cold a bit. This is an extremely comfortable and warm jacket. I work as an enquiry officer and work in all weather conditions, so the jacket definately assists in keeping me warm in difficult conditions.Recommend you buy one size bigger than you may normally purchase as it slghtly smaller made, still an excellent jacket.

Good everyday urban jacket

Visually, this is a good looking fleece but in reality it is more of an everday fleece than mountainware. With a good jumper underneath it works really well, keeping you warm. You would struggle to put an activity waterproof jacket over the top, as would be too bulky. For normal, everyday use it performs well and looks impressive.
