Fast Find PLB 210 GPS

1 2 3 4

Fast Find 210 Personal Location Beacon RRP £270 our price £229 The Fast Find 210 is a powerful waterproof 406 emergency distress beacon which has a built-in 50-channel GPS to help the emergency services pinpoint your location once activated. The 210 transmits two signals simultaneously, one to the subscription free global 406 MHz satellite system, and the other (121.5MHz) is to speed up the local recovery response process. Once activated the signal will continue to transmit for at least 24 hours at a powerful 5 watt output. The 406 MHz transmission ensures that a call for help gets through whatever the conditions. This unit also includes an SOS LED flash light facility which is manually activated to further assist in speeding up the user’s recovery during night time rescues. In addition the 210 will operate in temperatures down to -20°c and its integral battery has a user storage life of 5 years, so there’s no need for constant battery changes and re-charging. Please note that as of the 12th January 2012, individuals are legally able to use Personal Location Beacon (PLB) on land in the UK following a change in legislation by OFCOM.  However it must be stressed that this device is intended for serious emergency use only.

Small lightweight PLB

Small and light enough to take on any trip. Much more convenient than older maritime models. See
www.cospas-sarsat.org for lots of technical information on how it works and registration information. Difficult to give it 5 stars until it is actually used but it looks very good.

Well, that's what it's supposed to be for. I bought it for my eight-month old son because he likes the way it sounds, feels and looks. Besides, there aren't too many mountains in South Norwood. If there were, however, then I wouldn't go up it without this as I'm sure it's great.

A life saver for the clumsy

I managed to stand on my expensive over trousers while wearing crampons and left two big rips at knee level.

I bought these Gore Tex patches and they work really well. I took my time while applying the patch and have two crease free and waterproof repairs on my trousers.
Well worth the money to repair expensive waterproofs and extend their life.

Really Useful fix

You get 2 patches in this pack. I had rubbed the lining off a section of my waterproof and have put this on to make it waterproof. It was a bit hard to put on as it sticks instantly and I ended up with a wrinkle.

Brilliant lighter!

The title says it all, really; good value, easy to use, versatile. Only downside is the speed it uses fuel. Even so, best lighter I've ever used!

Fantastic lighter that excels in every way

The heat output on this lighter was stunning. The double burner delivers a very high temperature exactly where you want it making applications from sealing synthetic rope to lighting tinder very easy indeed. Since it is a jet lighter it can be held upside down which is very useful for lighting gas stoves and the like.

The fuel window gives an accurate impression of the fuel remaining. I did find that I needed to turn the flame up to full to actually use the last fifth or so of the fuel however. The ignition seems to be good with the lighter almost always lighting first time. On the rare occasions that a second press of the ignition was needed it may well be that I hadn't warmed the lighter sufficiently in my hand.

There are two slight downsides for me of this lighter. The first is that it does use fuel very quickly. Under very intensive use (several fires per day, charring wooden woggles etc.) on a scout camp it ran out after the second day. This shouldn't really be a problem under normal use and is a necessary compromise for the outstanding performance. It may be however be worth taking matches or another means of starting fire as a precaution. The other issue is that the surface finish does scratch quite easily as I fou

Highlander folding shovel - sturdy

I have bought this Highlander folding shovel to put in the car when snow is forecast.
It is a bit on the heavy side at 1Kg but this is to be expected as it is as described of 'heavy duty steel construction'.
When unfolded it is 60cm in height, 25cm when folded. The width of the spade is 15cm.
I believe that this will be up to the job of clearing snow and ice around the tyres to help get some grip and get the car unstuck.
Only two minor suggestions that I would make:
1) add a brief paragraph on to the packaging to explain how to lock the spade once it is unfolded (with spade fully extended, screw down the large collar-lock type nut). I guessed it was something like this but at first was not sure. Looks like you can also lock the spade head at 90 degrees to have a hoe, though this does reduce the overall length so not sure how effective it would be...
2) a pouch would be useful to keep it tidy in the boot of the car
Other than this, for less than a tenner, I am happy with the purchase.
