Powermonkey Extreme

1 2 3 4 5

The powermonkey-eXtreme houses a massive 9000mAh capacity Lithium Polymer battery and offers users real power in a compact, durable shell. The unit is capable of recharging most 5V devices, including an iPhone up to 6 times, a Garmin Edge 800 up to 6 times and standard mobiles up to 12 times. The powermonkey-eXtreme has two output channels; one channel outputs 700mAh max (standard USB) whilst the DC port outputs 2.1Amps max to support the Apple iPad (iPad compatible cable included) and other tablet computers. It's worth noting that the iPad can be charged directly from the standard USB socket but will charge faster when using the supplied cable via the DC out port. IP67 rated - meaning it is waterproof for 30 minutes up to 1 metre - and shock resistant, the powermonkey-eXtreme is perfect for the outdoor, marine & adventure enthusiast, as well as military & aid agencies. Featuring an LCD screen which displays battery capacity level and working status (on/off), its unique one touch friction swipe ON/OFF control is designed so the unit can only be turned on once connected to a device and cannot be accidentally switched on when not in use. When the 5V device or tablet computer is fully charged, the auto shut-off function means the powermonkey-eXtreme will turn itself off after 2 minutes, so the user does not have to monitor the charge state of the device being charged - thus saving power. The powermonkey-eXtreme can be recharged in three ways; via the universal mains charger, via the solar panel or via USB. Whilst the unit is recharging, the LCD screen will be red, once fully charged, the screen will turn green. When the unit is in use, the screen will be blue!

An essential for expeditions

Bought this before a one month expedition to the jungle in Belize. It works a treat and is surprisingly efficient given how small it is and seems to be water resistant.
The solar panel charges the battery you can see in the picture, this is then what charges your various electronics. The Powermonkey comes with so many adaptors that everything is covered (including everyone else's devices, so keep it to yourself).
Although I was slightly paranoid about it getting damaged by water, it held up well against rain although some condensation appeared on the inside of the panels.
Overall, good buy and would recommend.

Top quality piece of equipment

Top quality piece of equipment, the build quality is without fault, soft waterproof rubber grip on both the battery pack and solar panel with soft poaches for all accessories and adaptors with a perfectly formed carry case for both panel and battery. The solar panel has a green LED to indicate charging power and if you listen carefully you will hear a high pitch sound which at it’s highest indicates that it’s at optimal trajectory to the sun even in dull conditions. This unit will charge both Ipad and Iphone at the same time and same speed as plugging then into the mains power. Fantastic piece of equipment to have handy if you’re going out for a couple of days or a couple of months, with an attachment for every rechargeable device and plug attachment for every county and the solar panel for where there is no power at all, what more could you need.

This makes total sense!

This has greatly improved the usage of our head torches. Mine is on a full setting which gives me just over 5 hours when on the mountain bike. My wifes is set for 40 hours, medium setting for walking the dog,and my daughter has hers set for 120 hours (yes that's 5 days!)on a dim setting for messing around.
Adjustable with the easy to use software. Combined, the head torch and Core weighs less than having the batteries fitted. Plus, it saves you buying 900 batteries!!! That has got to be worth having!!

Great idea to reduce landfill.Let down by software

To save on AAA battery consumption is a great approach. One can now use a solar charger while on extended expeditions. However, the Core adds considerable bulk to the Petzl's slim lines. It is only 8mm thick but feels monstrous.
The main drawback is the limiting software. One can only reduce maximum brightness and change the light diminishing aspect (regulate it). The dimness 12.5% on 2nd light setting can't be increased. Furthermore, for the XP2 the claimed 60 metres output is now only 40 as indicated by the software!? Also the software hours of light usage do not match the advertised figures of the XP2 -
maximum economic
Battery life 80 h 160 h
Distance t=0 60 m 17 m
it is now (unregulted mode - matches AAA)
Battery life 13 h 70 h
Distance 46 m 15 m
Regulated mode - max light 100%
Battery life 4h30m 35 h
Distance 40 m 14 m
Hmmm. Happy not to carry loads of batteries and save money. But disappointed in apparent reduced performance..
