Fantastic beginners - intermediate shoe

This is the first pair of rock climbing shoes that i have personally owned and they are in a whole league of their own. The grip on them is brilliant and they even work extremely well when just using the friction between the shoe and surface. I have found from previous experience that you often compromise comfort for practicality, however with these shoes as well as being highly practical for climbing in they are superbly comfy and i would strongly recommend them to anyone!

Popular for good reason!

I bought these for a charity climbathon, so their first use was to climb a vertical mile! They are very comfortable, even with my buniony foot. The laces allow for a very precise, consistent fit and the squashy tongue means there is no uncomfortable pressure across the top of your foot. Very grippy and feel like a second skin. They are possibly not as stiff as some people may like, hence 4 stars, but that did mean I could wear them for 8 hours straight :-)

Very comfy shoe

Being new to climbing i wasnt sure what i was looking for when i came to climbing shoes. So after trying on about 4 other brands these were the comfiest by far. They are a good beginners shoes that you can wear all day long.

Great climbing shoe

I bought these shoes after trying on every pair in my local Cotswold store, with the help of one of the very knowledgeable staff. These shoes are noticeably more comfortable than many of the other shoes thanks to their mesh lining. Although being new to climbing and finding the fit of a climbing shoe strange, after a few sessions I found these shoes just got more comfy and perform well. I would highly recommend this shoe!

Very comfortable, great all rounders!

These fit perfectly and seem as though they were moulded around my feet. Took a few hours of climbing for them to stretch/wear in in the right places but now i really dont want them to wear out. The best stickies i've ever had, and at a very reasonable price.

A very comfortable and stable rock-shoe

I've used these for wall climbing - the toe and side shaping is superb, clean lines and great grip on the smallest of features. The slightly firmer sole (compared to others) I have found to improve my confidence to use less than ideal holds by knowing that my feet will stay put! The heel shaping is good and keeps your foot well forward without sacrificing grip. The last shape suited my (admittedly quite wide) feet well. I tried the lace version but bought the velcro closure as it gave me the option to adjust the comfort and 'snugness' on both the front and the centre of my foot, something that the laces did not. This may not be to everyones taste, if not, go for the laced ones. I would certainly recommend them to anyone to try.

A comfortable first climbing shoe.

As soon as the climbing bug took hold I found myself at my local Cotswold Outdoor (South Cerney) holding many climbing shoes. After some expert help from the staff I left with these Scarpa Vantages.
They are an excellent beginner's shoe, feeling snug but without forcing the foot into the cramp-inducing shape that top-end shoes can on inexperienced feet. Because of this they are an excellent choice for a long session of climbing, where walking between routes may be necessary.
The disadvantage is that they don't give the support underneath that you'd like when balancing on thin edges, sapping confidence to commit to harder moves.

Great service at Hedge End.

As a beginner I wanted something that fitted well enough, rather than was perfect and completly unwearable. These do the job. Definite improvement in my foot placement when I use these. Lace-ups so I can adjust compression to suit foot shape. No signs of damage after first session. Soles not too sticky, so not collecting rubbish from the floor. I would give 5 stars for service.
Perform as expected, at the moment money well-spent. Let's see how I feel after a few months of use.
Not giving a rating of 5 stars as I have no other experience for a comparison.

Good Step Up

After a long chat with the sales assistant at hedge end went for these boots as they gave a much better stiffness than my original Boreal Jokers. The rubber on them is perhaps a little hard but on the plus side they have lasted a long time for climbing shoes. Have to say the staff really know their stuff, spoke to a young chap named Dougie who turned out to be the president of Southampton Mountaneering Society!!
