Bargain at half the price

I've had a Mountain Equipment Lhotse Gortex XCR shell that has served me well for a number of years. Due to showing a fair bit of wear and tear, I thought I would give the Event fabric a try. Being able to get this jacket for half it's normal price was too good an opportunity to miss. I've not been able to test it fully yet regards breathability and waterproofness. As regards fit though I will say that it does come up slightly smaller in the shoulder area compared to my old shell but that may have been because that had been over generous in that area.

Superb Jacket!

I have been looking at getting this jacket for a while, and when i saw it at the sale price it was straight to the till. On the mountains it is a coat that will easily compress into your pack until you need it, and when you need it - it will perform! Fantastic at keeping the wind off you, and in the rain, easily handles whatever might come at you. Easily competes with the more expensive coats, and as a lover of Rab gear - i once again, cannot fault both the design and versatility. Quality product!

Outstanding jacket at an astonishing price

I bought this jacket recently having had experience with the Latok Alpine. To honest when I bought it I did so because I couldn't see any difference between the Latok Trek and the Latok Alpine - except the price. Rab have cleared up any confusion on their Facebook page with the following statement: "The Latok Trek was specially made for Cotswold. The features and design are the same as the Latok Alpine but instead of having a contrast colour on the side panels the jacket is all in one solid colour. The jacket is made from eVent® fabric but the appearance (weave) of this may vary depending on which colour jacket you have, this won’t affect the performance of the jacket."… so err, it’s the same jacket at half the price! Brilliant! For me the Latok Trek has been a direct replacement for the Latok Alpine but cheaper.

It’s super versatile jacket for all year round; in summer straight over a t-shirt or fleece when you get caught in a rain shower and in winter team it up with the Rab Microlight Alpine down jacket for ultimate warmth and rain protection (I’ve found that the medium Microlight Alpine jacket fits perfectly under the medium Latok Trek shell - I love it when manufacturers think through their product range to make it work together!). The other reason I use it all year round is that it’s wonderfully lightweight and so I don’t ever resent carrying it on the off chance that it might rain.

I use the jacket for walking, hiking and climbing and I like the fact that it is relatively slim fitting so that you don’t get too many drafts up your back and you don’t have tonnes of excess fabric flopping about when you’re wearing a harness or rucksack. I also like the fact that when you’re climbing there aren’t any flapping toggles or straps to get in the way, during high exercise the eVent® fabric has performed very well and the hood is big enough to facilitate a helmet but also completely adjustable making it totally useable without a helmet as well. It's also worth noting that fabric is pretty tough and has been able to take some fairly strong brushes up with rocks and I have had no tears or niks at all.

With regards the fit, I’m quite impressed that the sleeves are just long enough for someone 6’2” – having tried on other leading brands, I think Rab make theirs an inch or so longer than the average. (Admittedly they're not quite as long as the Haglof make theirs, but not everyone has monkey arms).

All in all, I can hardly fault this jacket. Everyone who lives in the UK and likes the outdoors needs a proper waterproof shell in their wardrobe and in my opinion, this should be it.

Very impressed, performance and price

Saw this my local Cotswold and wasn't sure if the pricing was wrong, other eVent jackets I've seen are in the £200 range. Very waterproof, very breathable, pockets are great size (I can fit my head in them!) and positioned so as to not interfere with pack belt.

No pit zips but unless its a hot day or you're running you won't need them, its eVent after all. Nice high collar to protect your face, good length on the arms with no ride up of the jacket when stretching.

One thing I noticed was some models/colours had different weaves of fabric i.e. some had a tighter weave and were rougher, others are more spaced out and smoother. Don't think this affects the performance at all but went with the tighter weave rip stop as it felt more rugged and durable.

Very impressed with the build quality, haven't tried washing yet but only owned for a few weeks. This should last me a good few years.

Best Jacket I've owned

Bought this from Hedge-End store, very helpful staff. This is a very warm jacket, nice fit and waterproof properties have stood up well to date. Used it for walking/rambling, school run, to and from work - cant fault it and sometimes if anything its too warm! Great jacket, beats other brands that cost much more. Grey colour looks good with Jeans or Workwear.

Superb

This jacket is superb. At the current sale price it is a bargain. So far it has been tested in torrential rain and very very strong wind and it has been A1. The Hyvent material outer "breathability" and the inner jacket warmth works a treat; keeping you warm without the "sweatyness" associated with "low tech" garments. Having had heavy rain and high winds I have every confidence that the jacket will easily handle sub zero temperatures.
This jacket is well worth considering if you're in the market for a triclimate 3 in 1.

top purchase

I'm by no means an advocate of functional wear, in fact, this may be the first "functional" jacket I have ever bought. How silly of me! It keeps very warm even when cold, wet and windy (like most here I live on the British isles..., great for testing a jacket like this...), and at the current sales price excellent value for money - probably even still would be at full price.

I would have preferred for the hood to be able to disappear in the collar, but that's minor. Inside pockets would have been useful however, it's a bit fiddly to use the zipped inner coat's pockets when wearing the overcoat (which does not provide any zippable pockets). Overall quite happy and excited about this purchase, flying to Bavaria shortly and will proudly cuddle up to some snow with this coat!

Amazing

Bought this jacket before a ski season and can not fault it at all. Both elements of the jacket are good on there own as well. Only criticism is there is no vents on it, also the hood is a little fiddly to get on and off. Practical and good once up though. I have used it skiing and trekking in Mongolia and both times I was very happy. Constant torrential rain for 3-4 hours and still dry. Like a lot of my kit I don't look after it as well as I should however you can't tell.

Warm, waterproof, comfortable, versatile

I bought one of these last winter just before the big snow, and have used it every day since.
The inner Primaloft jacket is warm, but not too warm - I wore a fleece jumper under it on the really cold days. The outer shell jacket is waterproof and pretty breathable. The combination feels really snug and cosy.
My only criticism would be that when working really hard, there was a bit of condensation inside, but this didn't affect the insulation, and the jacket stayed warm.
I bought a lighter TNF Polartec 100 fleece for the summer, which I have used zipped in instead of the quilt jacket, so I have used this coat all year round.

Great jacket, and a bargain at this price.

Only improvement for me, would be a slightly longer cut on the inner jacket, and the addition of a chest pocket on the same.

I lived in Belfast, where is rainy and windy, so I want to buy a jacket like this long long time, but have tried many brands and many styles, none of them can compare to this. Not only waterproof but also comfortable. Actually it also can be seperated, so in the spring or autumn I can remove the inside part, and get together in the winter! Quite useful! Worthful!
