Built specifically with worldwide trekking in mind, the polycotton fabric is tough yet soft to the touch. The side elasticated waist can be cinched in as your waistline disappears thanks to a monotonous diet of rice and dhal and regular exercise.

not happy at all.

I bought these trousers and they broke on the second time i wore them, keeping in mind that it was about the 15th hour they were being worn: as a 16 year old student these overtrousers already cost me a fortune, and to fix them will be costing me basically the same amount as they first costed.
Yes, fair enough, i was sliding down a small snowy slope, but there is now a 20cm rip right in the back, and even though these trousers are not meant to be for sliding down small hills, paying 50pounds is ridiculous for it being such a cheap quality.

loud trousers will keep you warm and dry

Had these for years and my other half has the big man's version. They have washed great and no issues with wear at all. The best thing about these pants are the fit. I find it imposible to get trousers of any kind which don't expose my kidneys and I have therefore resorted to polartech tights or 3/4 leggings when on mountains: these pants complement them perfectly when the weather dictates the need for wind/waterproofing or added insulation. On warm but changable days I open the zips from hip to knee and let air through, on chilly days, I have felt warm and cozy. Great value but you'll never be able to sneak up on anyone or anything due to the sweep-sweep sound they make but in a storm, who cares?

Excellent-quality product

Very good quality, self-coloured lining stitched into the outer throughout. No pockets but zips open at top and bottom so can open to access trouser pockets under the overgarment. Generously-sized, good leg-length, as published 31”, especially as body-length is generous at 10¼” below the waistband (size 14R). Rolls up small, about the size of a half litre bottle of water, weighs 398gr (14oz). Machine-washable at 30deg in non-bio detergent (but a quick wipe with a damp cloth will suffice). Competitively priced at £50.

The right trousers

These trousers are one of the best pairs I've had. They are very comfortable to wear, with an elasticated waist and room to stretch. Great value too.

Comfy, light and warm

I found these trousers to be very comfortable and even wear them around the house. They ahve plenty of room allowing you to really stretch when scrambling. I wore these trousers in wind chill of about -16 C in snowdonia and found them to still be warm and pritty wind proof, though i imagine they will still be good even in the summer though i cannot confirm this.

overall, a fantastic pair of trosers for a great price.

Tough and comfortable.

This isn't the most technical rucksack or the lightest, but it's incredibly comfortable with huge loads and has survived years of abuse.

Hard as Nails

The Vulcan is big, heavy, and hard as nails. You can throw as much weight as you can carry into its tardis-like main compartment, but you will break long before it does! There is not much in the way of fancy extras here, straps and buckles are basic but rugged, but they do the job, its easy enough to strap things to the outside using the built in anchor-points. The two 10 litre side pouches are detachable and can be strapped together to make a passable daysack, a useful feature although I would always use a purpose-built daysack if possible. The heavy padding on the back and waist straps do help when carrying heavy loads, but add to the overall weight of the backpack which is considerable.
Overall I think this is a great piece of kit when used appropriately, on long multi-day expeditions when a lot of kit is needed. It is also good for gap-year type travel as the straps wont break when its being slung up onto the roofs of Peruvian buses etc! If you want to carry a picnic and a spare towel to the beach however, don’t get the Vulcan! It’s a beast, and needs to live in the wild!

Superb Walking Boots

After experiencing severe toe pain walking downhill last year, a new pair of boots were required, but which make ?
After a visit to Cotswolds & expert advice from a member of staff, I purchased the Berghaus Explorer Trek GTX Boot.
Very light on the feet, almost like slippers, I was concerned if they were "man enough" for the Lakeland Fells.
I needn't have worried, 7 days of continuous wear, pounding up and down some challenging paths, scrambling over rocks, through wet and mud and not one twinge.
Not only were they "man enough", they were as comfortable at the end of the walk as they were at the beginning.
Plenty of grip, good support and waterproof.
They don't look too bad either !
Good choice.

The best boots ever!

I have owned my pair for more than 4 years now. They took me to several places in the world and the UK and never had problems with them - from the hot sands of Mojave, unbearable heat of Death Valley, through glaciated peaks of the Rockies to wet Norway coast. This year we are going to GR20 in Corsica and I am sure they will be the best companion on this toughest European trek!
