Women's Futura 22SL rucksack

I am so happy with the lime green and grey Women's rucksack that I purchased in the Guildford Cotswolds before I went on 118K trek from Tui in Portugal to Santiago Compostela in N Spain to raise funds for cancer patients in the in St Luke's Cancer centre Fountain Centre in Royal Surrey Hospital. The weather was awful so it was good to have excellent rucksack....not the one in the picture above though. Mine had a yellow flower

Best rucksack I've ever owned

I bought this after visiting a lot of shops, doing a lot of research on the internet and trying on a lot of rucksacks. I was looking for something to double as a winter day sack and ski touring pack.

Well, this rucksack is that and more: +8 litres really does mean what it says (and the extra capacity is in a helpful direction from a climbing point of view) and there are straps/attachments on the top, sides and front which could be used to attach a couple of kitchen sinks, should you so desire. More to the point, the back system is sufficiently rugged to cope with larger loads. Put this together and the rucksack can be used to lug your gear to a wild camp before reverting to type as a climbing sack.

From a climbing point of view, it is excellent: you barely notice it's there at all. Must be something to do with the VariFlex hip belt. Incredibly stable. And a couple of extra gear loops always come in handy. It's not bad to wear whilst cycling either.

Speaking of the back, I sweat an awful lot and have still found that my back stays fairly dry with this one.

The rucksack has plenty of useful features (useful being the operative word here) while not being stupidly over-featured. The zip down the side, as another reviewer has pointed out, is brilliant. Said zip is big and tough too, so no worries about it breaking. And the ice tool/ski/pole attachments are perfect. The extra under-hood pocket is ideal for keys and suchlike.

It's also a damn good-looking rucksack if you can get your hands on the blue one. Prepare to be envied.

If I could add one thing, it would be a compression strap mid-way up the rucksack, as there is on the larger 45+ model. But hey, nobody's perfect!

Excellent Design

I first got the Deuter guide 32, but found it quite inconvenient as to get something from the bottom of the bag one had to take everything out then put everything back in. Maybe this was the case because it was a mountaineering rucksack-take everything out when you get to the bivi. Well, anyway, being 12 that's not my thing; some long walks and hauling gear to the crag, and that's just about it.

Then I found this. The Deuter 35+, and the first thing I saw was the side access zip, running the length of the rucksack. Finally, I thought. So, selling the last one, buying this one, I began again. Another long walk, but without my bum, hips or shoulders getting at all tired. Another hauling to the crag, but it was easy to get my rope from the bottom of the bag. Another winter day out, but a seat in the snow. Another day scrambling, but elbow room to make moves. Another day to the wall, and it looks good!

Having said all this, there are some problems: if one is to put a waterpoof bag liner inside, the side zip is made reduntant and just adds weight. Just use a cover. Simple really. Oh, and one last problem, you haven't bought it yet!

Brilliant mountain Bag

I've had one of these for a year now and its a fantastic addition to my kit. Its been used winter and summer in rain, snow and sun and I cannot fault it. Very comfy fit and very secure to my back even when scrambling. I can't imagine ever wanting a different mountain bag in the future.
