The Pertex/Pile concept is ideal for hikers, mountaineers and telemark skiers who want to stay warm in damp and wet conditions but who don't want to have to keep stopping and starting in order to put on or take off layers. In cold conditions, this one top does it all whilst you remain on the move.

Wear it next to the skin to allow the Wicking AquaTherm lining to draw moisture through to the outside, for maximum warmth, efficiency and comfort.

Legendary outdoor clothing garment Reviewed By Martin, 21 Dec 2012

I've owned one of these shirts (jacket) now since 2001 and it's still brilliant. Great for keeping you warm although the initial cost can appear expensive. These jackets are ideal for the active outdoor type especially if the activity is stop/start and you need something to keep you warm when you've stopped.
Top tip: Ensure you order the exact size you need as these garments are designed to be worn next to the skin or as close as possible (so maybe only a base layer underneath). My mistake was purchasing a 40 inch chest when I'm a 37/38 and hence the jacket isn't as warm for me as it should be. The back of the jacket has a very generous sized flap that covers your rear and keeps the cold draugths out!

Can beat it. Reviewed By Andrew, 15 Oct 2012

Just brought my second shirt. Last one is now 17 years old still going strong but I've out grown it. The last one was put through hell and back many exercises to the mountains of Afghan. Its kept me warm wet or dry. I tried lots of warm gear but nothing has come close. light weight easy to stuff anywhere. You can even stuff it into its own kangroo pouch. Its well worth the money, strong and warm.

The best single outdoor jacket. Reviewed By Alex, 07 Apr 2012

I have three versions of this and one of the Montane shirts that are basically the same. If I had to have one outdoor jacket, it would be this. It works well in rain and when it's very cold. It's not waterproof, but I regularly wear it in pouring rain as you'll always sweat in a goretex if you're working hard up a mountain. It dries in no time at all and the venting options really do work well to manage your temperature.

Absolutely wonderful! Reviewed By , 21 Feb 2012

I recently spent weeks looking at different outdoor jackets, eventually i came across the Buffalo Special 6 Shirt. I believe this jacket is unbeatable, firstly the price of £120 is not that expensive for a multi-purpose jacket as other brands would be charging £200 - £300. The Pertex/Pile lining on the inside of the jacket will keep you warm in any temperature that this country can throw at you. The jacket can be warm on it's own, with no other layers underneath. If you start to feel too warm, zippered vents on the sides of the jacket will allow you to cool. The shirt also provides multiple straps and Velcro tabs which means that the fit of the shirt is snug and this makes it unbelievably cozy and secure in the harshest of conditions. On a mountain i would rather sleep in this rather than a standard sleeping bag! Made in Sheffield, i am proud to wear a British made jacket which is outstanding. This can not be beaten if you want to get away from wrapping up with layer after layer reducing your movement, this is the best. Thank you to Cotswold Outdoor for suggesting it. Lastly, people who do have the jacket have stated that it lasts year after year. Armed forces and the search and rescue can't be wrong!

Couldn't live without it Reviewed By Les, 12 Jan 2012

My buffalo shirt goes everywhere with me from winter mountain biking in Scotland to open canoeing on the Dart. It really should be the first piece of kit any self respecting outdoor enthusiast should buy. It keeps you warm when wet and great in a sleeping bag when the temperature drops. With the addition of a lightweight goretex top you're ready for anything. I'm now going to by a new one..

Astonishing performance Reviewed By Graham, 24 Dec 2011

I wear the jacket when kayaking. In a racing kayak (flatwater not whitewater) you sweat a lot and wearing a "dry-suit" is not really an option. The special 6 wicks sweat very well and drys quickly when wet. Today (Christmas Eve) I ended up in the canal (about 5 degrees C). Once I was over the shock and out of the water the special 6 simply drained out and after a few minutes of hard paddling I was toasty warm again. The jacket/shirt was dry enough when I finished to drive home in. When you meet others wearing buffalo you know they are the real deal- not outdoor fashion followers. OK, is not fashionable, it just works.
