The usage I have out of these is extreme, I have used them heavily on all occasions from day trips, climbing, to everyday cold walking to and from. Justifying the expense is very simple in my mind. Maximum warmth, minimal sweat. So so very comfy, and very hard wearing. For climbing I tend to take the bottome up slightly to free my ankles and the Velcro strap is great, with no slippage. The waists are very comfortable, there is belt loops, but I have never had to use one. Great flexibility for movement. Try a pair on, and the comfort factor alone may sway you. Have been in a few showers also, and have not got wet, obviously if you jumped in a pond, then you will. So don't. Still kept warm, despite the outer being visibly wet., also would recommend to some cyclists. I don't find I sweat in them, but they keep me at a very comfortable temperature on cold days, and do well against the cold wind.
