With the ATC-XP a climber can control how much friction they want while belaying or rapping, which in turn means greater control with multiple rope diameters. An extended central section keeps biners and ropes properly oriented and reduces kinking. The thick rope-bearing surfaces of the ATC-XP mean that ropes wear less and last longer. Compatible with a very wide range of rope diameters, from 7.7mm to 11mm, thanks to the high and low friction modes.

Great bit of kit! Reviewed By Thomas, 13 Jun 2013

Having tried a few different models of belay at our climbing centre I found this to be by far the best, both in terms of build quality and usability. Its great to have the choice of both smooth, low-friction side and a high-friction side when belaying. Highly recommend!

Great for two climbers of different weights Reviewed By Tim, 30 Apr 2013

Only just started indoor climbing with my children. This belay device is excellent for us because you can use it with the rope over the 'teeth' side for extra friction, or reversed with the rope over the 'non-teeth' side for less friction (Black Diamond call this 'normal' friction). This means that I can use it in 'normal' mode to belay my daughter, who is so light that the rope won't feed through when lowering her otherwise! She uses it in 'high' friction mode to lower me ... who is substantially heavier! Good piece of kit, well recommended by the Birmingham branch.

Awesome Belay Device Reviewed By Mark, 17 Jan 2013

I bought this piece of gear for trad and winter routes. Works amazingly well on indoor walls with both full and half ropes. It is very grippy and we put it to a wee test with some leader falls, to say both the lead climber and belayer felt very secure is an understatement. Paying out is very easy and the rope seems to run smoothly when you need it and locks off when you need it most.

Top Notch Belay Device :) Reviewed By Matt, 20 Jul 2012

I bought this piece of gear for sport climbing and it has done amazingly. The teeth on the device are incredibly grippy and allow for any amount of falls with 100% safety. It pays out very well and i would recommend this bit of gear to anyone.

Brilliant belay devices. Reviewed By Alex, 07 Apr 2012

These work very well regardless of the weight of the climber.
