Great pack and service
Reviewed By Tony, 21 Feb 2014

Bought this for my wife, as a replacement for her Vaude, after she had tried my Stratos for an hour or two. Like she said "No contest" Fits like a dream and feels like you are hardly carrying any weight at all. More than enough pockets etc for our needs. The ventilation on the back is very good, better than the Vaude.

Only 1 bug bear for ourselves. We'd like to see a couple of small ties for walking poles as well as the stow on the go set up. Only for the reason we think the poles get in the way a little. We use the tool attachment with a large cord lock that pulls the loop in tight.

Just a quick word on the online service, brilliant. Good notification, depatched very quickly and arrived on stated day.

Really great day pack

I bought this day pack for my girlfriend for days out hiking at Hadrians Wall (introduction to the delights of the countryside on foot). She said that the pack was really comfortable to wear and that her equipment didn't get wet at all which is good due to the extreme weather conditions of driving rain, and a snow fall from hell on our hike near Housteads Fort we had fitted the supplied waterproof outer which worked. I recommend this day sack which has enough space for all your needs for a days hike.

Excellent day pack and more…
Reviewed By Marielle, 19 Sep 2013

I bought this to replace my old Karrimor day pack which was not so well suited to the longer, harder day hikes that I was doing more of, not least because it was developing some holes in the bottom. Another aspect where my Karrimor one failed was the back ventilation system which it claimed to have, but which was doing very little to keep my clothes clinging to my back, and to the rucksack.

For day hiking, this rucksack is very good. It definitely does have a very effective back ventilation system, comprising a rigid frame which keeps the back of the rucksack off your back. The downside of this, however is that there is less space inside that it appears. Nevertheless, I've found it to be spacious enough to accommodate all the day hiking essentials, including all of the layers that you've stripped off since the start of the walk. I've also used it as my overnight bag for 4-night trips to stay with friends where I haven't needed camping gear, and it's certainly large enough for that although some patience in careful packing may be required. As I was also doing day hikes on those trips, I only needed to take one bag - this one - to carry my stuff there in and then empty out to use each day. The compression straps are a great feature for when you have a relatively empty pack, such as on the day hikes.

The integrated rain cover is a very useful feature. It saves you buying a separate one which you then have to remember to pack. This one stows away very nicely into the front pocket. It's also detachable so you can hang it up to dry, or use it to sit on for a picnic on wet grass. Inevitably, it's not 100% effective at keeping everything dry, and the main leakage area is at the top, unsurprisingly. This means that whatever you've stored in the zipped compartments in the lid are most likely to get wet. In my case that included things like tissues, so I very quickly learned to keep them in a Ziploc bag. Nevertheless, everything else in the bag remained dry, even when tested in the merciless Icelandic weather.

I tried on a number of different day packs before choosing this one, and I have to say that the female-specific fit does help, in my case mainly the shape and length of the hip-belt, and rather less so because of the reduced back height. However, I'm not keen on the supposedly female friendly colours that this rucksack comes in. I would much rather have had it in red, or green, but only the mens' version (the Stratos) is available in those colours. Just because I don't have a Y-chromosone doesn't mean that I'd like my gear in a girly colour, and certainly not in pink!

On a more serious note, this rucksack could be improved by the addition of a bungee cord system on the front, but this is still a fairly minor point.

Bottom line: excellent rucksack for day hikes. A bit pricey compared to other options but worth the money.
