Great Jacket, Great Price Reviewed By Christopher, 20 May 2012

This is a good shell for the price considering that it is 3 layer event!

I find that it folds down to a reasonable size too and also looks quite trendy.

It's waterproof, breathable and windproof and the cut of the jacket is superb, the hood is also terrific and very adjustable and strong is windy weather thanks to the wired peak.

I also like the fact that the Rab logo is embroidered rather than printed.

All in all an excellent garment with no downfalls what so ever especially at £120!

Value, at offer price Reviewed By Allan, 09 May 2012

Lovely jacket BUT!
Material very good, waterproof though not thorn proof (nik).
Pockets (outer) large but fill with water on long rainy days. Inner pockets, great for OS map.
Hood, fantastic! This is versatile, very adjustable to keep the warmth in, while facing into the driving rain. However, it would be much better if there was a decent collar for the hood to fold into, as this area flaps around when not zipped, also, it leaves the neck exposed to wind.
Adjustable inner cuffs would be of great value to this item, while it's waterproof material is great, in persistent rain my fleece cuffs were soaked.
Good.

Excellent quality, and value. Reviewed By Liam, 01 Apr 2012

Had the jacket through the winter months now. Primarily used it for cycling and hikes. Good breathability, very suited to more extreme use with its slim fit.

Very waterproof due to the simple design. The hood is especially good, and can be adjusted to ensure a snug fit with various toggles, and also incorporates a peak which keeps the rain off your face well. The high neck also aids in keeping you dry and out of the wind.

The only slight downside are the outside pockets, although they're nice and big they are quite awkwardly placed. You wont be able to walk around with your hands in these pockets, they are only there for function.

Bargain at half the price Reviewed By Mark, 28 Jan 2012

I've had a Mountain Equipment Lhotse Gortex XCR shell that has served me well for a number of years. Due to showing a fair bit of wear and tear, I thought I would give the Event fabric a try. Being able to get this jacket for half it's normal price was too good an opportunity to miss. I've not been able to test it fully yet regards breathability and waterproofness. As regards fit though I will say that it does come up slightly smaller in the shoulder area compared to my old shell but that may have been because that had been over generous in that area.

superb jacket Reviewed By bruce, 26 Jan 2012

took a slight gamble on purchasing this jacket having not used this fabric before. However, i am very impressed with how breathable it is and also how robust for it's weight. Have used this jacket for wind swept coastal walking to climbing Munro's i can honestly say it has no faults....i just wish i hadn't wasted so much money on other brands over the years.....

Superb Jacket! Reviewed By Chris, 16 Jan 2012

I have been looking at getting this jacket for a while, and when i saw it at the sale price it was straight to the till. On the mountains it is a coat that will easily compress into your pack until you need it, and when you need it - it will perform! Fantastic at keeping the wind off you, and in the rain, easily handles whatever might come at you. Easily competes with the more expensive coats, and as a lover of Rab gear - i once again, cannot fault both the design and versatility. Quality product!

Outstanding jacket at an astonishing price Reviewed By Alexia, 12 Jan 2012

I bought this jacket recently having had experience with the Latok Alpine. To honest when I bought it I did so because I couldn't see any difference between the Latok Trek and the Latok Alpine - except the price. Rab have cleared up any confusion on their Facebook page with the following statement: "The Latok Trek was specially made for Cotswold. The features and design are the same as the Latok Alpine but instead of having a contrast colour on the side panels the jacket is all in one solid colour. The jacket is made from eVent® fabric but the appearance (weave) of this may vary depending on which colour jacket you have, this won’t affect the performance of the jacket."… so err, it’s the same jacket at half the price! Brilliant! For me the Latok Trek has been a direct replacement for the Latok Alpine but cheaper.

It’s super versatile jacket for all year round; in summer straight over a t-shirt or fleece when you get caught in a rain shower and in winter team it up with the Rab Microlight Alpine down jacket for ultimate warmth and rain protection (I’ve found that the medium Microlight Alpine jacket fits perfectly under the medium Latok Trek shell - I love it when manufacturers think through their product range to make it work together!). The other reason I use it all year round is that it’s wonderfully lightweight and so I don’t ever resent carrying it on the off chance that it might rain.

I use the jacket for walking, hiking and climbing and I like the fact that it is relatively slim fitting so that you don’t get too many drafts up your back and you don’t have tonnes of excess fabric flopping about when you’re wearing a harness or rucksack. I also like the fact that when you’re climbing there aren’t any flapping toggles or straps to get in the way, during high exercise the eVent® fabric has performed very well and the hood is big enough to facilitate a helmet but also completely adjustable making it totally useable without a helmet as well. It's also worth noting that fabric is pretty tough and has been able to take some fairly strong brushes up with rocks and I have had no tears or niks at all.

With regards the fit, I’m quite impressed that the sleeves are just long enough for someone 6’2” – having tried on other leading brands, I think Rab make theirs an inch or so longer than the average. (Admittedly they're not quite as long as the Haglof make theirs, but not everyone has monkey arms).

All in all, I can hardly fault this jacket. Everyone who lives in the UK and likes the outdoors needs a proper waterproof shell in their wardrobe and in my opinion, this should be it.

Very impressed, performance and price Reviewed By Edward, 12 Jan 2012

Saw this my local Cotswold and wasn't sure if the pricing was wrong, other eVent jackets I've seen are in the £200 range. Very waterproof, very breathable, pockets are great size (I can fit my head in them!) and positioned so as to not interfere with pack belt.

No pit zips but unless its a hot day or you're running you won't need them, its eVent after all. Nice high collar to protect your face, good length on the arms with no ride up of the jacket when stretching.

One thing I noticed was some models/colours had different weaves of fabric i.e. some had a tighter weave and were rougher, others are more spaced out and smoother. Don't think this affects the performance at all but went with the tighter weave rip stop as it felt more rugged and durable.

Very impressed with the build quality, haven't tried washing yet but only owned for a few weeks. This should last me a good few years.
