Versatile, weather protective, well featured mountain jacket

A packable bundle of incredibly breathable warmth, the Strata Hoodie is great on its own or great as a mid layer for those who are being active in the cold.

As you'd expect from Rab, it's a versatile, weather protective, well featured mountain jacket, but the real magic lies in the insulation. If you're serious about getting out in the mountains, sometimes you'll be out in the cold but, if you're swinging an ice axe or picking out the best line across an exposed ridge, you could build up quite a head of steam. That's why the Strata uses Polartec Alpha, a new form of insulating fill which offers excellent breathability. It also has a more stable structure than other synthetic fills, so the fabric it's wrapped in doesn't need to be as dense to hold it all together... so the overall package can be really breathable!

This extra breathability makes it ideal for active pursuits in cold conditions, trapping warm air but not moisture, thus allowing you to keep working hard without filling your jacket up with condensation. It also means it's much more comfortable when used within your clothing system as a mid layer too.

When you don't need it, it stuffs away easily into its own pocket to stow neatly in your bag. All in all, a great idea!

What a gem

This jacket is what I have been waiting all my hillwalking days for It is so light and windproof and easy to pack in the rucksack when not in use - not that happens very often I just don't want to take it off!

Fantastic jacket
Reviewed By Caroline, 19 Feb 2014

Brought this as a mid layer between merino wool base layer and Rab Bergen waterproof, and it has kept me warm and dry in temperatures of 5 to -12, with winds up-to 70mph in the snowy Lakes. I had been getting very wet (sweat) before I brought this jacket, and then cold. I do not get wet and cold anymore.
This jacket is amazing, I chose this one for its breathability, and warming properties when damp/wet and considering the UK's damp weather, this was a better choice over a thin down jacket, for me. The advice I received from the Keswick store was great.

Warm and Light
Reviewed By Wayne, 08 Feb 2014

This jacket is amazing! I have always been wary of super light jackets but after trying this on, I was sold. After wearing it around town with just a t-shirt and micro fleece under it, I was super toasty with other people walking around in super heavy jackets. So all the warmth and none of the bulk.

My new go-to jacket!
Reviewed By Stephen, 01 Sep 2013

I bought this jacket from the Edinburgh store(very helpful and friendly staff) when i was shopping for equipment for an upcoming expedition. That was over a month ago but the weather's been so warm i haven't had the opportunity to test it out. Until last weekend. I went to Snowdonia for a bit of training on the bank holiday and the weather was changing every 10 minutes. I put it on at a low level to combat a chilly breeze and it was fantastic. I then kept it on all day, through wind, light rain, hot sunny spells and several strenuous and sweaty climbs. It dried quickly and the breathability is amazing. It kept me comfortable in the breezy, changable conditions but what amazed me even more was how cool it seemed to keep me when the temperature rose.
I'm a big fan of RAB equipment anyway so i may appear a little biased, but nothing can detract away from the fact that this is a fantastic piece of kit. I was hoping they were going to make pants out of the same material before my expedition, but no news yet. I've had to settle for a pair of primaloft Mountain Equipment Fitzroy pants instead. Shame!

Great packable jacket
Reviewed By John, 31 Aug 2013

August 2013. Looking for a lightweight jacket and happened to come acroos this Rab jacket. I already own a RAB Generator Jacket but use it for general wear as a result I need a new one. Obviously at the moment I have only used it in milder conditions and found the breathability to be good. The quick slip on hood was very handy. I'm now looking forward to using it on winter days as I feel it will come into it's own.
