Comfort and durability on treks up to the snowline

The Burma reincarnated! Meindl's Bhutan MFS Boot sports a streamlined upper and extra-soft ankle cushioning while retaining the Burma’s familiar sole unit and the well-fitting last.

Meindl’s leatherworking heritage is clearly evident in the fabrication of the Bhutan MFS as you pick it up. Added to the benefits of a top-quality leather upper, such as durability and comfort, is the reassurance of a waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex lining and an all-round rubber rand for protection against scuffs and scrapes.

Around the ankle collar, memory foam moulds to the shape of your ankle for a fantastic fit, extra support and instant breaking-in.

These features make this boot an easy choice for demanding hikes in the low-level mountains and even easy treks in the major mountain ranges.

The Bhutan.
Reviewed By Christopher, 24 Jan 2015

After deciding that I needed a new pair of boots I naturally began trying on multiple pairs and none felt better than the Bhutan.

Since purchasing the boots in August 14' I have done multiple big days in the Lakes (Helvellyn, Blencathra, Scafell) as well as days in the Yorkshire Dales on the 3peaks challenge and days in North Wales.
Come rain or shine the overall comfort is outstanding.

The gore-tex lining provides water protection, the vibram sole and leather provide support and comfort.

All in all, a very comfortable, technical shoe that is worth every penny of the investment.

(It is worth mentioning that not every shoe fits the same, so always try on a 3 pairs minimum before purchasing.)

Quality pair of boots!

After a few years of struggling on with my old Brasher hillmasters I decided to take the plunge and get some Meindl's. My father like me owned some Brashers and had had some discomfort with them, he bought some Burma Pro's (old model of the Bhutan) and has since had many many miles of trouble free walking including doing the west highland way.

So far I have only taken these boots on a 22 mile walk accross Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters cliffs from Eastbourne to Brighton. They fitted beautifully and felt great from the moment I left Eastbourne Wetherspoons to the time I arrived at the Brighton one. I think the boots have somewhat of a classic look to them and have the potential to give other walkers some equipment jealousy.

I'm off to the Brecon Beacons in a fortnight to give the boots a stiffer examination but I expect they will perform well. So based on what I have experienced so far I can strongly reccomend this product. p.s. I also got a 10% emergency service discount, thanks Cotswolds for the great service!

Meindl Bhutan Boots

After wearing a pair of boots that leaked and left my feet wet I was looking for a new pair. I had looked at a number of shops before settling on Cotswold (mainly because I had 15% discount).

However, when I went in everyone was friendly and I had to wait to be served as the sales assistant was looking after another customer. Normally, I know what I want and don't hang around if there is no one to serve me. For some reason I stayed. Maybe it was the friendly nature of the staff.

When the sale staff became free she asked me what I was interested in, and I had previously searched the internet and found a couple of boots that had attracted me. However, I didn't really know what size my feet were, I tend to just put them on and if they don't hurt then I just buy them.

However, the sales person measured my feet, a process which took some time, before even talking about what boots I was interested in. She then asked about budget and then suggested an alternative pair of boots.

My initial thought was that these were going to be a horrendous price, but I put that to one side. I then tried on the two pairs that I had first thought about. Neither of them felt as comfortable as the first pair suggested. She then brought out another pair that she personally liked. However, these too were less comfortable than the first pair.

Then came the fitting. It turns out that, being self-taught, I was doing almost everything wrong. I normally wore sports socks and the laces were loose too resulting in ill-fitting boots. However, I was not getting pains and this appeared to surprise her. She then politely corrected me (but without being rude) and made suggestions where appropriate without making me feel stupid.

By the time I left I felt positive about my purchase, which was in the mid-range between the two boots I original thought about buying, and I had listened to the advice given. There was no pressure to buy.

As I write this I have been wearing my Meindl Bhutan boots about the house, something I would never do, to get used to them. Yes, they feel hot but I'm not walking out in the countryside yet, so that is to be expected, but I am looking forward to wearing them and having dry foot.

I think if I had gone to another store and came out with a pair of boots, plus extras, I may have resented the purchase as I had been steered away from what I had wanted. However, with Cotswold I had been involved in the selection and the fitting and, for me, that was everything.

I will be back to Cotswold for any future equipment needs. I'm sold on the Cotswold way.

Having worn several types of boots either hiking or service issued boots DMS or High Legged Combats these are far suprerior to anything i have worn. Well I did have the Pro Burmas for a few but they developed a small crack in the arch leading to the heel. Cotswolds Truro exchanged them for these without a receipt, as a few details given led them to my purchase and validity. Great sturdy and well constructed boots which will see many a miles coastal walking around rocky and shigle beaches in Cornwall.

Thanks to the team at Truro, 5***** service

Simply Brilliant Boots!!
Reviewed By philip, 16 May 2014

I purchased a pair of these recently after another manufacturers boots failed on me after less than 3 months of use. Excellent customer service by the Cotswold staff at Durham who exchanged the boots for me without question. I explained to the staff member that I needed a good pair of boots as I was planning to walk the Yorkshire three peaks in around 10 days from the time of purchase. She suggested these and I'm so glad that she did. After trying them on they felt much more supportive and sturdy than my previous boots but at the same time still very comfortable. I only managed to walk around 8 miles in them on a couple of easy walks prior to my 3 peaks challenge which I completed a few days ago. I cannot praise these boots enough no blisters sore feet etc. The boots were supremely comfortable and very supportive and after no real breaking in out of the box I don't think that you can get a better recommendation than that. Simply brilliant boots, get a pair you will not be disappointed. If I had to find any fault it would be with the internal foot bed that just feels flimsy and cheap, however, there are plenty of after market insoles which can be purchased, which is what I have done. Brilliant 5 stars.

Amazing boot no need to break in!
Reviewed By Rhys, 23 Mar 2014

Having decided to ditch my old boots, due to some pain, I stumbled across the Bhutan. They are easily the best boots I have ever owned!

After the excellent service in store they fit perfectly with no need to break in at all. On the first outing they got coated in mud which washed off with ease and were bone dry within a few hours.

If you want strong comfortable boots these are the ones for you.

Thank you Cotswold Solihull.

Bhutan marvellous

Needing to replace a pair of Brashers that I have had for many years and many, many miles, I was quite apprehensive that I could find boots that were as comfortable. I read review after review and visited a number of Cotswold and Go Outdoors outlets looking at what was available.

Finally took the plunge and with my favourite socks in my pocket I came to Cotswold and tried out a few different brands and boots. I tried on a boot that was one half size up from my shoe size and with the help of an able and knowledgable assistant was soon trying them out in store.

Having been advised on the returns policy I spent the next few evenings padding around the house, proving the boots were the right size and getting familiar with their feel.

Two full days in the Ogwen Valley have left me feeling delighted with my purchase. These are my first pair of Meindl boots and I am extremely pleased with the fit, the level comfort, their grip and the secure and confident feeling I get when wearing them.

An excellent boot and one which I would recommend to any serious walker. When going up or down these boots were excellent. I felt sure footed and at the end of each day my feet felt as if I had simply been out for a stroll, never mind above the snow line on rocky steep terrain.

Thank you Cotswold :)

My Bhutans walked right out of the box

My trusty Meindl Burmas were worn out and needed re-soling. I decided to buy new. Craig at Windsor Cotswold guided me to the Bhutan boot. What great advice. They, with me in them, walked 20 miles straight out of the box on the two following days. Just like the Burmas they are superbly comfortable and stable. Thanks, Craig.

I wanted some very strong boots which will last me years and stay waterproof. Right out of the box these were very comfortable and fit perfectly. They are not the lightest boots but the build quality is superb. I look forward to many years use.

I must compliment the service at the Harrogate store. Very patient and knowledgable.

Another fantastic boot

My meindl vakuum are now on their last days (5yrs old and still waterproof mind but the soles are worse for wear), so time for a new pair. At my local Cotswold they has just received the new Bhutan which I decided to try. They have the same MFS fit as my vakuum so fitted like a pair of slippers. I decided to give them a go and have not been disappointed. Broke them in on a 12 mile walk, was as if I had worn them for a few months. Another great boot from Meindl, plus great fitting service at the Carmarthen branch.

Great boots out of the box. They look small in size compared to my reichle/Mamut boots, but the fit is perfect. Lacking the bulk of my former boots they feel light and easy to wear, even in work. 16 miles over pen y fan doing the dance they feel like money well spent already. No hesitation in recommending these boots!

Fantastic new boot!
Reviewed By M, 16 Jan 2014

Recently visited my local Cotswold store to purchase a new pair of Burma Pro boots as replacement for the pair I have been using regularly for about the past 10 years. My old boots were comfortable straight from the box and did not require any "breaking in". Despite losing their waterproof qualities a few years ago - I guess Gortex linings eventually crack - they have been very comfortable (and the waterproof problem was solved with Sealskinz over socks!).
Unfortunately replacement Burma boots were not available in my size, but the sales assistant offered the new Bhutan boot instead.
These look very similar to the Burma with only minor cosmetic tweaks. There appears to be additional padding around the ankle and top cuff areas. This provides a very supportive and comfortable fit. So far I have only used the boots for short walks (up to 6 miles), but look forward to many miles over the coming years. And, as usual, the Cotswold staff were informative and helpful in selecting my purchase.
