Fantastic tent!

We are couple and this was our first camping trip. Tent is amazing! Soo much space, we had bigger room for ourselves and smaller room could fit another 2 adults but we used it as spare room in which I could get change, hang our clothes. Tent has big porch, we had 2 high back chairs and table, stove, umbrellas could easily dry when open and there was plenty of space for our walking boots. We were really relaxed and comfortable, my boyfriend is very tall and he had no problems with standing up in the tent!!! We had privacy in buy camp site thanks to our amazing tent! Best camping buy ever!

Great tent, very stable in high winds

I use this tent for basecamp as it has lots of space for cooking and stuff when the weather turns bad, use the tension band system when winds pick up and this tent can take a beating. Bit on the heavy side though. Saved my ass on many occasions so it owes me nothing..

Spacious and Comfortable camping

I have found this tent to provide excellent space and a comfortable camping experience, the storage pockets are very useful and it appears to be well made,
However I would recommend that you buy a decent set of pegs with this tent as the ones provided are very short! This resulted in out tent taking off down Langdale campsite in strong wind! It rolled twice, travelled 20M (with us and the dog in it) but the tent came out with only minor damage! very robust!

Fantastic car camping tent for a couple...

We picked this tent for for car camping as it was big enough for us (a couple and a dog). We did initially think was it too big for just the two of us but having used it a few times now its a perfect size to sleep in, store our gear and have a table and chairs in for the rainy days.

I've been so impressed with it. It's really easy to pitch (even with one person). Really solidly built (I'm sure we'll get years of use from it and its holds up better than most in a wind).

What makes this tent stand out from the competitors other than the above I'd say is the design. It's much taller than most and having the 'flat roof' instead of a standard tunnel. It feels cavernous inside.

If you're looking for a car camping tent for a couple or small family I really can't rate this enough.

All I would say is invest in the carpet and footprint. The footprint makes life MUCH easier when you get home and the carpet means you can go barefoot inside without getting cold feet, not having to wear footwear after a long days walking or climbing is immense (if you're car camping, you might as well do it in a bit of luxury!)

Third time lucky...

I purchased this tent to take my wife and 2 year old son camping. The first tent I was given had faults, so did the replacement. Cotswold's exchanged them both with little hassle.
The 3rd one was tested at the last opportunity and was A OK.
I would say this is a 4 man tent, max. Pulling back the sleeping pod divide really doesn't add that much space, it would just be really snug.
There's good ventilation with the vents above the front door, side window, rear vent and additional door.
The tent looks like it has plenty of room when you put it up, but once you've got all your gear, food and luggage in there really isn't much space left for living.
Definitely get the fitted tent carpet, it's good if you and your kids are stuck inside because of bad weather.
I'd recommend this tent and have done to a colleague, but if you're serious about space then go for the Icarus 500 XL. I'm looking into a forward extension for some extra space, in hindsight I'd have paid the extra as it's a cheaper option to the extension and less hassle.
Don't forget to check dimensions and weight when picking your tent...

Superb tent

It's really easy to erect and well made . It's marketed as a 5 man tent but i think someone would have to sleep in living area to achieve this . i find it great for 2 of us plus dog for long weekend stays . you see plenty of icarus 500's on campsites which proves it's popularity.

Good general camping tent.

Vango have tried to pitch this as a mountain tent due to the TBS system, but it absolutely isn't. It's a great tent for car camping with a huge porch area and good space inside that will fit a double airbed comfortably. The TBS system is poor and shakes itself loose during high winds. It may be worth customising the TBS system with stitching or glue to fix the length of the straps and avoid the above problem. If you limit its use to campsites, it'll serve you well.

Excellent value tent

Used this for a week's wild camping in the Scottish highlands. Packs down well, easy to put up, lightwight so ideal for back packing. Kept the midges out as well. Am 6ft 1" tall and I fitted in no probs. No 'porch' area so to speak of, but yr boots will fit between the inner and outer flysheets and stay dry over night. Highly recommended, can't go wrong at this price!

Well made, not for everyone though.

I use one for cycle touring. There is enough space for an adult and child (just), so there is plenty of room for one adult.
There is no room for storage, so you'll need a plastic sack to weatherproof your other kit, and cooking cannot be done in shelter. However, it's much more comfortable than a bivi bag and can be considered to be as small as a tent can go.
Construction is excellent - the groundsheet is much heavier cloth than many these days, which is good to see.
I would have liked a few more pegs - it's nicer to be able to peg the outer with a bit more adjustment. The knotted elastic for the peg loops is not great - some others I have seen are clamped which doesn't work undone.

However, these are minor gripes, and the Gossamer is stunning value. So it's a 4 star recommendation, provided you wouldn't have to live in the thing for a week. There is space for sleeping only.

fantastic!

I bought a Jack Wolfskin Gossamer tent before taking a three month trek with my horse through the mountains of Greece. I have made previous trips in Greece (have ridden 8,000 kms) and took only a bivvy bag, to cu weight. But this time I took a J W tent. It made a HUGE difference. Easy to put up and tough - I probably pitched it and took it down 90 times and it still looks like new. It was warm, even in very cold conditions near the summit of mountains where there was snow, and, it was superb in very windy conditions.
It was, needless to say ABSOLUTELY water proof. In addition owing to an ingenious system for circulating air inside the tent, compensation wasn`t bad at all. What else? oh yes.. the inner shell is an absolutely insect proof mesh.. really really excellent I wasn`t bitten once though I camped in mosquito rich marshes. And fo me the best thing is that, if the weather is good you can sleep just under the mosquito net and look atthe stars and moon as you drop off to sleep, and wake up next to the grasses you camped on, as if you are in the open, just in the open and not eaten by insects.
The pegs sometimes bend, BUT can easily be straightened, so that`s OK. I usedthe same pegs for three months of very rugged camping, and

Amasing value Bivvy

I am really pleased with this Item. Solid build easy to erect especially when cold and tired. I bought for overnight trips walking and kayaking Lochness (hopefully). Plenty of headroom for a bivvy, dont expect to be able to sit up inside if you are over 5'0". But its not a tent this is a bivvy! Having used UK armed forces style bivvy's this is luxury and really light and compact to boot. Can't wait to get out and in it.
