This special construction of small diameter rope, is designed for static stress use. It is not for absorbing dynamic energy. The construction is a braided sheath over a core ("kernmantel").

I bought this in store, and one of the staff suggested I buy 2 metres of rope for my chalk bag in stead of a more expensive accessories carabiner clip, which was pretty helpful and saved me a couple of quid.
