I recently ordered this for click and collect however prior to this i visited my local store for advice. I explained my needs for a good all round jacket (for hiking, biking, snowboarding, travel) with excellent water repellency - the member of staff gathered several jackets for me to try and explained the benefits of each. with this in mind we looked online for discounted options and he explained that the velum would be ideal for me. A really light and technical jacket with simple features that allow me to access pockets and sinch in the hood and base. its super light and has goretex fabric making it ideal to sling into my travel pack whether im going in short weekend trips or out in the elements where its proving its ability. i ordered it on friday and it was instore by saturday. excellent product chosen with well informed advice.

I brought this jacket as an outer shell for hiking in the Scottish mountains and it has surpassed expectations. Paired with the appropriate layers this jacket delivers warmth in extreme cold conditions, but also maintains a comfortable temperature when talking lower level walks.

After buying this at Christmas, I have hardly taken it off! I was primarily bought as a quality waterproof to be taken on a World Challenge Expedition to Argentina in the summer of 2012 but seems to have become a second skin over the past few weeks.
Firstly, I must say that the image of the jacket on the site does itself no favours! It not only a good looking jacket, but also a perfect fit. The concealed toggles in all areas allow for person customisation of the fit but I have had no need to adjust anything. The zips are spot on and I like the fact that the second main zipper almost locks into place at the bottom of the jacket, so it doesn't slide up like on other jackets.
The material itself is also extremely compact and lightweight, yet has the feel of quality that you'd expect to find on a more heavy duty waterproof. It is perfect for carrying large, heavy rucksacks and hasn't once felt like it was struggling to resist the large strain put upon it. I am also impressed with the wear on the material. After numerous scrapes against walls and falls on my mountain bike I have found not one scratch... A remarkable feat!
The performance of this jacket is second to non, and for the quality it provides it comes at a remarkable price! Forget your high fashion 'Rabs' and 'Hagloffs', when it comes to waterproofs, the Berghaus Velum Jacket should be your first stop!
