Good for belaying leader Reviewed By Klaas, 13 Mar 2013

These belay devices are fine and this one is particularly light with slots to lose weight. However, I bought this for easy belaying of seconders but the friction with a normal 10.2mm single rope is huge in the "guide" mode. It might work OK with a double 7 or 8mm but I have not been able to test that.

Top class belay device! Must get! Reviewed By Ryan, 12 Mar 2013

I own two of these devices. I don't normally give feedback on belay devices However.. The Black Diamond ATC Guide is definitely an exeption. Comparing prices, it may not be the cheapest, but not the most expensive. I have used this belay device on both single rope and twin rope. Works perfectly on both. Even for begginers i suggest you go for a good quality one for when you begin going for trad climbing and using it on guide mode, self belay etc. this is a MUST buy ladies and gentlemen!!

not compatible with DMM belay master 2 Reviewed By kieran, 01 Oct 2011

The wire loop on the belay device keeps popping open the plastic "anti cross loading clip" on the karabiner when load comes on the rope during top rope belaying ,other than that it is a well made and easy to use bit of kit
