Brilliant winter climbing gloves Reviewed By Joe, 16 Mar 2013

I bought a pair of BD Punishers a few years ago to replace the skiing gloves I was winter climbing in before. The difference is amazing. Yes, they are expensive, but it probably gave me an extra lead grade.

I would recommending trying a pair on in store to make sure you get the correct size because dexterity is important. Mine fit perfectly and I find I don't need to remove them when handling gear as I have needed previously.

They are waterproof enough for snowy conditions, I wouldn't recommend using them in the rain, but even with wet snow getting inside the glove sometimes, they seem to dry quite quickly. They are also quite warm. There is always a warmth/dexterity compromise but I think these are as warm as you could get for the dexterity they afford. In the alps they're good for cold days, but actually too warm if the sun is out and the wind is low.

The velcro closes nice and tightly although the cuff is quite short. This is good in most cases but in deep powder a longer cuff like on the BD Specialist is probably better. The only feature missing is wrist loops so you don't drop them. The only time I take them off is to eat a snack, but you wouldn't want a miss-hap! I made my own with some cord and toggles, but it would be nice to have them included.

When this pair wears out (which they are showing no signs of after 3 years) I will buy another pair.
