Clears black gunk perfectly! Reviewed By Michael, 22 Aug 2012

I’ve had my CamelBak ThermoBak (Military-Tactical range) for about 6 years and it is still serving me strong, however over these 6 years I have never properly cleaned my CamelBak, only occasionally rinsing it with cold water and allowing it to air.

I discovered to my disgust that a layer of black gunk (probably bacterial) had accumulated along the inside of the tube and reservoir from poor care. Instead of just chucking the system in the bin and buying a new one, I thought I should buy the ‘cleaning brush set’ and try giving everything a good clean.

To my delight (and wallet) the £12set worked perfectly, the ‘tube brush’ along with warm water cleared all of the black gunk from the drinking tube after numerous pushing and pulling, leaving it in a like new condition. Cleaning the reservoir with the ‘reservoir brush’ gave exactly the same results, just some warm water and elbow grease brushed all of the gunk off the inside lining, and could be rinsed out with warm water.

The only downside to the set was that it did not include any sterilisation tablets (like I’ve seen on CamelBak’s website). But after I had acquired some from a local store, I sterilised my whole system to kill of any bacteria left to leave my CamelBak like it was 6 years ago.

I am very happy with my purchase as it has saved me more money than buying a new system and has restored my CamelBak to like new condition, as I said the only downside was having to purchase the sterilisation tablets separately.

In hindsight the poor condition of my CamelBak’s was probably responsible for my kidney infection last Christmas, whoops.
