You definitely need a HMS Carabiner to your gear list, on my sports gear kit I have 3. I primarily use it just for belay. And some other technical stuff. If your just a begginer and looking for some cheap gear this is the one you need. Dont go running about looking at expensive lightweight ones yet. Use some of these, get used to the gear and once you can afford it go for some black diamond gear. DMM HMS Karabiner, recommended.

This Karabiner is very durable and my favourite all round karabiner. It is very smooth when screwing or unscrewing and none have ever got stiff unlike some other karabiners. Highly recommend.
