Great fit, warm, questionable hood Reviewed By Simon, 26 May 2013

ME have done a very good job of making a fleece which is very warm, cut to allow freedom of movement with a snug fit, hence relatively low weight. It's cut for a relatively athletic fit - those more portly in stature might have to look elsewhere.
The thumb loops in an internal lycra wrist gaiter inside a looser fleece cuff is a nice idea and works very well, but I'm not quite so convinced by the hood. It's sized to fit over a helmet, but without one this leaves a lot of excess material to catch the wind and flop about. This is partially offset by setting the hood edge close to the front of the jacket collar, but I'd rather have had a snugly fitting hood to go under a helmet, which I think would have been more versatile.

A must buy Reviewed By Michael, 12 Apr 2013

A high quality product that you would expect from ME. I have used this on the coldest of climbing days under a hardshell and on its own, It is a very warm and nice fitting bit of kit and the addition of the hood gives you that added bit of protection.
Would highly recommend this :D

WOW! Reviewed By , 24 Mar 2013

At last i have found a manufacturer that understands human anatomy!. Tired of buying fleece jackets that fit where they touch, i was so pleased when i tried on the touchstone, it told me i had to take it home!!. The storm/ thumb cuffs i found a great boon in keeping out the draught. Whats just as important is i look good in it! ( No mean feat). The mountain has climbed high in my good books.

Mountain equipment=quality Reviewed By Michael, 21 Mar 2013

Buying mountain equipment clothing has become somewhat of an obsession of mine! Purchased this fleece for an exped to South Georgia and a pilgrimage to the resting place of the great Ernest Shackleton. As with all of the ME kit I have bought to date there is no compromise on materials or build quality. In summary if you want a fleece that combines great looks with even better performance look no further and accept nothing less!

Warm and cosy as long as its not windy! Reviewed By Peter, 18 Dec 2012

Lovely warm and cosy fleece ideal for those chillier days out and about. Only downside is it really isn't very windproof so I have to put a waterproof jacket over it if it's windy. Brilliant fit and great design though, just know its limitations!

Fantastic quality with plenty of pockets Reviewed By Stuart, 12 Nov 2012

Pockets are the number one thing for me when it comes to jackets and this certainly has enough of them. Its super warm, very comfortable and quite light and works well for casual wear as well as hiking.
I've bought this as one of my main fleeces for an expedition to Norway with British Exploring Society and so far (I've had it 3 days) it has been the best £80 ever spent (20% discount) and will probably buy a second one in the other colour.

Love this fleece Reviewed By Daniel, 06 Aug 2012

I just find this really comfortable, warm and a good fit. I love the way Mountain Equipment cut their clothes. After a few months of being worn around one of the zips (on a pocket) started to come away from the fabric, but it was an easy fix. Only reason I didn't give it a 5* rating, but feels a little harsh. I'd worn it all Snowdonia and Kent!

Warm and technical Reviewed By Alan, 04 Jul 2012

This is a jacket that is well designed and features all the technical features for an all mountain jacket. The jacket is warm which is the reason for buying it, and has the added bonus of a hood providing essential heat retention when the temperature drops. The pockets are easy to access when you need to, and are positioned so as not to cause issues when wearing a day pack. If your after a warm fleece for all manner of conditions then this is the fleece for you.

SMART BUT CASUAL JACKET Reviewed By Steve, 01 May 2012

Bought this jacket on a whim and not disappointed. Its comfortable and reasonably wind resistant. Has been admired by work colleagues and also by my son, so it must be 'smart'. I got a large and although my usual size feel that it is a little bit small made. I could not put anything but a microfleece underneath, but I suppose that is not the point. Would recommend as a well made piece of clothing.

Warm, Light, Comfortable Reviewed By Chris, 10 Apr 2012

I took delivery of this jacket during a cold snap earlier this year and have worn it on various weekend winter day-hikes. I am very impressed with the quality: everything is well-designed and very well put together. It is the only outer later I have needed in freezing cold, dry weather. Loads of handy pockets all with glove-friendly zips. Very light and extremely comfortable - you will forget you are wearing it. Just love it. Nice one, Mountain Equipment.

the warmest fleece i have ever owned Reviewed By Alex, 07 Apr 2012

This fleece is excellent for mountaineering, climbing, skiing, you name it it does it well. the arm pocket is the perfect size for a full size silva compass or a lift pass, the polartech fabric is hard wearing and doesn't bobble like some other fabrics. combined with a rab vapour rise top it creates an exceptionally warm and cosy combo. The fleece really cuts down on windchill and the hood is a godsend, although its a tough job to get over a helmet (it fits underneath one perfectly though. The hood also has a tendency to blow up your head in strong winds as it isn't stowable which is one drawback. The two upper chest pockets are not the most useful because it's quite hard to get items out when they are in,however i have noticed a leatherman fits well inside them. The colour is very easy on the eye, the contrast between the zips and the material makes finding the pockets in low light, or at a glance a very easy affair. The high collar is a very effective seal and keeps the heat in even when you are moving around lots.

Excellent mid-layer Reviewed By Marc, 19 Jan 2012

Keep mid-layer in mind. Have worn this as an outer on a couple of crisp winter days - the warmth this jacket provides is brilliant. But it is not wind-proof! The short-sleeved arms underneath certainly felt the chill of the relatively calm breeze.
A great array of pockets for keeping all sorts on you.
This is a great fleece, and is excellent for keeping you warm, but do add additional layers not to disappoint.

Great midlayer jacket Reviewed By Rachel, 31 May 2011

Bought this jacket for my husband for his birthday, and what a great present!
Very well constructed, great fitting all over especially the sleeves. High collar keeps the neck warm and doesn't feel uncomfortable when fully zipped up. Inbuilt thumb hole within the inner sleeve is perfect as the cuff is angled to act like a glove but with maximum dexterity. Pockets are in good positions, great for storing many gadgets! Hood is a bonsus, easily big enough for a climbing helmet. Only down side is the fact it is not windproof, but still an awesome jacket!
