The Baltoro Alpine jacket is a highly breathable, wind and water resistant softshell jacket. This mid weight softshell from Rab is ideal for climbing and mountaineering, utilising Polartec Power Shield Fabric to offer the best combination of fit, performance and protection.

The Baltoro Alpine spec. reads like an Alpinists check list - Helmet compatible hood, tick! Adjustable cuffs and hem, tick! 2 zipped chest pockets, tick! Highly breathable and weather resistant fabric, big tick! The velour backed fabric provides just enough warmth to ward off early morning chill and provides a high warmth to weight ratio.

This makes the Baltoro Alpine ideal for spring/autumn conditions when it may be just too cool for a light fleece but conditions don't call for a full hard shell.

Brilliant Mountain Softshell Reviewed By Nick, 09 Feb 2013

Had this jacket for about a year and I can't fault it. Been used for a range of activities, hiking, climbing and mountaineering. I rarely venture into the great outdoors without having it in my bag.

Keeps off the UK chill easily, thanks to the Polartec Powershield material, when often the main factor in staying warm is keeping the wind at bay.

It's durable and pretty abrasion resistant as so far no tears in the material and it's been put through sharp sea cliffs, rounded gritstone and all day multi-pitch climbing. In addition maintains good flexibility whilst the arms don't ride up, thanks to it's adjustable velcro wrist cuffs.

The hood is one of the best ones I have seen as I find other companies can overlook this feature. Very helmet compatible with it's draw-sting at the back and a wired peak, making sure the hood stays where you want it and keeps rain from pouring into your face.

The pockets too are harness compatible being that bit higher, and the central chest pocket takes most guidebooks and maps. The interal pocket is useful for storing less used items that you still which to have on your body.

As expected for a softshell it keeps the wind away and is pretty breathable but also sheds light well re markedly well with water mostly beading away. Although in longer or harder downpours you will want a waterproof as the Baltoro does 'bleed'.

Although nikwax treatment does helps this re-waterproof. I've washed mine another of times and today it still looks fairly new.

I bought the jacket at full price but don't regret it, so whilst it's in the sale it's a bargain. Would fully recommend this.

Overall a great 3 season softshell jacket, only in summer does it become to warm.

Ideal!! Reviewed By Robert , 01 Dec 2012

This jacket is really good and looks really nice. I've worn it for a 100km event and also took it to the himalayas. The hood is well designed and will go over a helmet with ease.
Hardly taken this jacket off!!

Do it all jacket "seriously" Reviewed By Ben, 18 Nov 2012

Brought this Jacket earlier this year, this is my fifth Rab item now and they just keep getting better. You do pay more for the likes of Rab items, but the age old saying "you get what you pay for" couldn't be more true. Seriously, i live in this Jacket. This isn't a rain jacket but i have been very surprized how much the rain just beads up on this thing. I did paid the full RRP for this jacket, not the sale price, but i'd do it again!

Epicness Reviewed By Tim, 08 Nov 2012

really good jacket, doesnt take too much abuse though (ive given it a lot...holes have appeared when i went through a hedge, plus use of the technical elbow whilst climbing appears to have an effect on it) But really warm, good sized hood for helmet.

Excellent Jacket Reviewed By Jack, 21 Sep 2012

This jacket is great value for money. I have used it on numerous occasions; it keeps the cold and the wind out. The large front pockets are incredibly useful, and easy to access even when wearing a rucksack.

Superlative softshell Reviewed By Owen, 05 Sep 2012

The Baltoro offers superb protection for the elements, and outstanding breathability to boot in a lightweight package. It's the Powershield performance fabric's windproofness that is the Baltoro's main USP - it really can take an absolute hammering atop peaks and crags.
Rab-tastic.

Lovely piece of kit Reviewed By Paul, 09 Aug 2012

Bought this jacket just before heading off to Snowdonia and it performed excellently. Had some really strong winds but this jacket kept me warm and dry through lighter rain. Couldn't recommend a better softshell. Rab product too and they are one of the top companies for leading outdoor equipment.

Quality Soft-Shell Jacket Reviewed By Gary, 27 Feb 2012

Replaced my old trusty North Face shell. The Baltoro is in a different league in terms of quality and robustness. I've found it to be completely windproof and it recently kept me bone dry during a 1 hour rain storm in the hills. Like most soft-shells you need to get the mid and base layers right for warmth in winter. During the recent 'warmer' conditions (11C) found the jacket is fine with just a very thin t-shirt. In summary, this a great jacket which will not let you down.

Great all rounder. Reviewed By Doug, 13 Jan 2012

I was given this softshell as a Christmas present and have hardly had it off since. The addition of a hood (capable of taking a helmet) has made this a great all round jacket, especially for Scottish weather. I now only have to reach for by old Gore-Tex on the very wettest of days. I only have two negatives about the jacket; first the hood does not roll away the best, which can be annoying in very windy conditions. Secondly the external pocket are possibly a wee bit two deep coming below where the waist belt of my rucksack sits, which can become irritating if you are having to take your rucksack off and on lots. But all round a good bit of kit that is going to be well used.

Awesome allrounder Reviewed By N, 18 Mar 2011

Just took this jacket snowboarding and even at -25deg all I needed was a couple of light wicking t-shirts underneath. Even my mate in his 600 fill down jacket was colder. J=Fitted ove snowboard helmet too.

Conversely can also be a quite cool in the uk. Guess something to do with wet vs dry cold.

Love it though and highly recommend to everyone I know.
