The MeCo 165 Long Sleeve Zip tee is a long sleeved, zip neck base layer made from 165gsm MeCo fabric.

MeCo fabric is an intimate blend of 65% ethically sourced Australian Merino wool combined with 35% recycled polyester with Cocona activated carbon technology.

Cocona fabric is made using natural technology. Activated carbon is derived from discarded coconut shells and other natural micro porous particles - these particles are contained within the fibre and can not wear out or wash off. Cocona is extremely breathable and accelerates evaporation, making them ideal for use in baselayers.

Cocona absorbs a wide range of odour molecules within the activated carbon and aids the natural anti bacterial properties of Merino wool. The major benefit of MeCo blended fabrics is the vastly reduced drying time for these fabrics, this makes them excellent for use as a year round base layer and also saves washing and drying time.

Great in the cold, good in the warm. The zip provides excellent venting and it dry’s quickly when it’s hot. The cocona/merino mix gives a good weight to durability ratio, making it a useful garment for a wide variety of applications


Verdict: Always take mine on trips.

As well as all the other stated benefits, tops made in this material just seem to hang well on your body; there's a looseness that you don't get with other material used as a base layer. This makes them very comfortable to wear. I can't see me being anything other than these in future.
If you are thinking of buying online - I have to agree with 'Philip' on size. I normally take a large in Rab tops, but the medium in this top fits me better than the large [I have one in each size].

This is one of my favourite peices of kit. It works over a wide temperature range, stays comfortable when sweaty and dries quickly on to feel like new, all without odour. The zip is very deep and the cuffs are easy to pull up, giving excellent ventilation. The sizing is a little generous - I nearly bought the small, yet tend to need large Rab gear (I'm less than average build).

Bought the shirt online as it was a good offer and just what I wanted for an upcoming ski trip. However the sizing seems a bit generous particularly in the arms where it is very baggy and the colllar is not snug to the neck. Disappointing as I bought a RAb Aeon T shirt as well and that is a very good fit

I own various base layers but this one instantly jumped to the best one I own by a long way.

Its very comfortable, light and warm, I have worn it several times, its great wearing it with the Rab Bergen Jacket when hiking it keeps you warm and never to hot.

I first used Rab’s MeCo base-layer while climbing in Tremadog, its long sleeve design kept me warm from the cold early spring wind while belaying, and when climbing I could roll the sleeves up or unzip the half chest zip to cool down if required. The MeCo fabric is very soft indeed, while also boasting good wicking and drying properties. The base-layer is also a useful light mid-layer as part of a layer system. I’ve used the base-layer as a tee for casual occasions and looks fairly smart.

Basically this base-layer will keep you warm in the cold; keep you cool in the sun; protect you from the wind; wicks sweat away and will dry fast.

The only downside is that it won’t stop you from falling while climbing…
