A stunning jacket for climbers and mountaineers, the Scimitar also makes perfect sense for walking and travel.


The Scimitar is engineered from Matrix DWS: a double weave stretch fabric with a Durable Water Repellent treatment and no membrane. In other words it's rugged, it allows excellent freedom of movement and offers excellent resistance to wind and rain while breathing brilliantly. A heavier grade of Matrix DWS is used on areas likely to get more abrasion.


In addition to this hugely versatile fabric, the Scimitar has a peaked hood, big enough to wear over a helmet but adjustable to fit just your head. For stowing your bits and pieces, there are hand pockets and a chest pocket you can get at while wearing a pack or a harness.


So, whether it's windblown days in Snowdonia, craggy gritstone missions in Yorkshire or extended excursions to far flung places, the Scimitar can cut it.

Fantastic Light Weight Softshell Reviewed By Daniel , 09 Mar 2013

I have had this jacket for a year now, Whilst wearing it I have received many comments saying it looks really good.

I have used it for winter scrambling in Snowdonia and it was perfect for moving quickly across the rocks in a wind. Kept me cool enough but the wind out and the seize is perfect for stretching on those trick parts with the long arms keeping it round your wrist.

I have also used it for alpine summer climbing and again it was idea. As you get up to the 4000m peaks you will need to put a fleece on underneath but it coupes fine with this. Not making it feel tight or restricted.

Overall a great jacket and well worth it for the money.

It seems to me, that you only have to spend half an hour walking round town these days to see at least half a dozen people wearing a black North Face jacket of some description.

I have a black Tri-Climate jacket myself, which has served me very well. However, this fast evolving "uniform" is one of the reasons why, when looking for a soft shell, I started looking towards other manufacturers, and noticed this offering from Rab.

The fit is excellent. The back of the jacket covers enough of your bum, so that it doesn't ride up during use and the sleeves are long enough so that they don't pull down when you reach up (testament, I assume to the garments apparent rock climbing origins).

Having bought this in November, It has to be said that this is definitely an "active" jacket.
On a cold day. It will keep you comfortably warm while moving, but not long after you stop you will start to feel the wind come through the material. This is not a problem, but you will probably want to wear a micro fleece underneath in winter.

The water-repelling properties of the jacket have been very good, It has happily shrugged off everything that has been thrown at it so far.

The only slight criticism that I have is that the "2 way main zip" is a bit annoying in use. A standard 1 way one would have been better.

This minor issue aside, this really is a well thought out and well designed piece of kit!

I got this jacket for use as a summer jacket when going climbing in Sicily and south France. Worked a treat in sicily when the weather was hot to keep the wind off. Then took it to France and again worked great in good weather to keep the wind off and light rain. One weather forecas was good so only packed this and not my heavy weight, sods law it was a monsoon with some of the heaviest rain ive seen and this jacket stood up to the test! WHAT A JACKET well worth the money

Great coat! I wear it when I am helping run climbing sessions, generally and has now become my new traveling jacket! Doesn't weigh to much so is ideal for little trips to Europe where the weather is not the greatest!

Beads with rain quite well as I was not recommended to wear it in a heavy down pour, served me well!

A very good comfortable softshell jacket Reviewed By Des, 16 Aug 2012

I've had this jacket 6 months now and used it on a number of outings to the lakes. It is a snug fit but with plenty of flexibility. Its length is just right to avoid any chance of it riding up when stretching. I have found it to be ideal in blustery drizzly conditions but do not expect it to be warm or waterproof. It is certainly highly water resistant but it is likely to give up during persistent heavy showers. The hood is excellent though I do find it a little bulky when rolled up into a makeshift collar. On the whole though it is a very good comfortable softshell jacket.

I wanted a fairly lightweight crossover jacket, windproof/water resistant and fairly breathable. This seemed to fit the bill, just tried it today a quick 10 miles on dartmoor in light showers and one reasonably heavy. Very impressed, stayed dry and comfortable, the jacket is great fit like the length and a good fitted hood. It will used a great deal and would recommend

I have this jacket for a short while but it impresses every time i wear it. Its close fitting so there's no excess flapping around but the cut is excellent it doesn't ride up when stretching. The hood is very good also, it covers most of your face without obstructing your sight and moves with your head and if like me you run hot it breaths very well and it feel robust great jacket.
