Excellent mid-weight top Reviewed By Matthew, 11 May 2013

I have owned one of these tops for a while now, having previously bought the hooded version. It is an excellent mid-weight top and being close fitting, it fits neatly into a layered system if required. Good levels of warmth, quick drying, light and easily packable make it an excellent choice for all kinds of outdoor activities. It certainly finds it's way into my pack when I head for the hills. Well done Rab, another excellent product!

Extremely versatile and superb quality Reviewed By Kris, 10 Feb 2013

This is one of the best outdoor clothing purchases I have made for several reasons:

1) Versatility - I have used this as a base layer or mid-layer when skiing and hiking and even on it's own as a top in warmer conditions. I originally purchased one in size small (I am 38" chest but tend to like a close fit) but changed it for a medium as the fit is very tight and increasing the size allows it to be worn comfortably as a mid-layer.

2) Warm and quick drying - On top of a merino base layer with only a skiing hardshell jacket on top, this kept me warm at temperatures of minus 15-20 degrees centigrade in the French Alps. It easily out performed my fleeces as a mid-layer for warmth and dries much quicker with no odour even after 5 days use.

3) Features - the chest pocket is very accessible and the thumb loops are very useful when reaching high or under gloves to prevent cold drafts at the wrists. The neck is quite high which helps with warmth but the zip is long to allow easy venting when things heat up.

4) Comfort - the Polartec material is very soft and therefore this can be worm comfortably next to the skin (although this material will never be able to match a merino wool base layer for comfort).

I really cannot find a fault with this top and will be purchasing the hooded version too. Truly a bargain even at RRP.

Very versatile, great midlayer Reviewed By Adam, 13 Jan 2013

I purchased this top about three years ago now and still there is no sign of wear. It has had a lot of use, from light hill walking to climbing Little Tryfan in Wales. So apart from the brilliant quality, this top has three other reasons to justify £60 on a mid layer: fit, warmth and versatility.

First the fit, it is body hugging, so if you don’t want the next to skin feel then buy a size larger than what you would usually have. However the 4 way stretch of the Polartec material is fantastic, the top won’t rise up when reaching for your next climbing hold, and the thumb loops are great for when it turns really chilly.

Next there is the warmth. I've often been comfortable enough in -2C with just this and a base layer on underneath. Once you get moving, the Rab fleece really keeps you warm, and the massive zip offers really good ventilation. Again with the stretch, if you are overheating, you can pull the sleeves up easily.

Lastly is the versatility, like I've mentioned before I've used it for climbing, walking, general day wear and even running. The Rab Power Stretch Zip Top is designed for winter use, but you can use it on its own in the summer (it just isn't the greatest of looks when the zip is completely undone!).

Quality without the big price tag Reviewed By Ciaran, 29 Sep 2012

Bought this top about 3 months ago and it hasn't been off me since. Tested on a quick up & down to the summit of Snowdonia. I experienced some light showers enroute to the top, where the temperatures naturally decreased. However, never once did I need to reach for my jacket, as the Rab kept me dry and warm. Great value for money.

A must have for any outdoor enthusiast Reviewed By Steve, 06 Jun 2012

The Rab Power stretch is an outstanding piece of kit, it's versatility and durability make it a must have for anyone who enjoys a wide range of outdoor pursuits.

It's so good i have two as it can be used effectively for so many activities. As part of a layered set-up for more extreme excursions, or on it's own for summer hill walking and trekking. I've even used it as part of my kit for the Devizes to Westminster canoe race as it retains it's insulation properties even when wet.

Amazingly comfortable and hard wearing i can't recommend it highly enough.

Well worth the price! Reviewed By David, 05 May 2012

I've had this top for about 3 years now and finally got around to doing a review...

It's of very good quality material and considering it is very thin and light it does a fantastic job of keeping you warm. i have used it for hiking and D of E including Gold level and it is a great piece of kit, often only walking in this and a t-shirt underneath.

The small pocket is very useful for a phone or compass etc as it's in easy reach and the 1/2 zip makes it easy to pull on and off and also to control your temperature whilst walking.

The thumb holes are abother great feature, keeping your wrists warm and if your wearing gloves no air gets up your arms whatsoever.

All round a very good top and well worth the price!

Great dry midlayer or summer top Reviewed By Matthew, 30 Mar 2012

I have had one of these for a while now and was so impressed that I also bought the hooded version. Light weight, excellent thermal properties and very quick drying; all essentials when hiking up in the hills for a few days. There's nothing worse than sitting round in damp clothing, in your evening camp, when the temperature is dropping. This top ensures you don't! Truly a great top. Highly recommended.

An excellent addition to the walker's wardrobe Reviewed By Dai, 30 Dec 2011

As a keen walker there are many occasions where I get too warm to wear a mid-layer, yet it's too cold to wear just a base-layer. This top is the ideal compromise. Other than the sleeves being a touch too long for my liking (but this is a matter of taste & fit) I have nothing but praise for this top. A worthy addition to the Rab stable. Hill walking is a lot more enjoyable wearing this top!

Extremley comfortable Reviewed By Billy, 10 Oct 2011

This is one of these tops that when you put it on you instantly feel warmer. It is extremley comfortable and can be worn on top of a base layer or even just on it's own. What is good though is that as warm as it keeps you it doesn't seem to make you sweat or become over heated, so although it doesn't claim to be breathable it does the same job. A very comfortable top whether it is for outside in the elements or for everyday use. I don't normally look at Rab products as I know they can be expensive but this is certainly good value for money.
