Brilliant all round shoe Reviewed By Samuel, 23 Apr 2013

I've had two pairs of these, and worn both to death - which took some doing. Their tough, long-lasting and versatile. I basically live in them - they are great approach shoes, with good grip and stiffness - but they also do everything a casual shoe can do.
They are a little warm for hot summer days, but that's what you get if you want a waterproof lining. They're also a little stiff/heavy for running, but then that's not what they are for either.
Basically, I couldn't recommend them more.

Amazingly comfortable compared to others Reviewed By Martyn, 27 Feb 2012

I went into my local shop (Southampton) looking to return my Salomon Quest GTX shoes, because I was on my second pair and they had fallen apart again. The staff were incredibly helpful and I was talking with one of the assistants about shoes with a similar spec/price. I tried these on compared to the meindls, with their contagrip sole and the Haglofs with their own sole. I don't particularly rate contagrip - they wear down too quickly in my opinion. The shop assistant also told me that the Haglofs had received a lot of complaints for the same problem.

Another issue is how waterproof they are. Leather is less permeable than fabric, and these have a much larger covering with leather, meaning the waterproofing will hopefully last longer than it did with my Salomons.

The reason I went for these over the other shoes was based on the glowing praise from the shop assistant, the reputable name of Vibram, Gore-tex and Scarpa as a brand, and the immediate comfort when I put them on. Obviously I would recommend trying them on first, but for my feet they fit like a dream!

A well made shoe with issues Reviewed By John, 27 Feb 2012

I have had these shoes for nearly a year now and I have done a great deal of walking in them. I bought them because they were a good fit (great fitting service offered by Cotswold) and I was so impressed with my Scarpa Terra GTX walking boots.

However they are stiffer and less comfortable than my Terra's, I though they would wear in a bit but they haven't, the sole seems to be hard with little give in it which can be harsh on sections of road etc. Also they don't breathe very well, I seem get very sweaty feet in them (not soaking but damp enough to cause cold during rests), this is a problem even just wearing them around the house, and for the record this is not an issue I have with other boots and shoes. (Issue is resolved by regular sock changes)

Now the good points, they still look nearly new (I have done 100's of KM in them), they are very waterproof, they give good support which hasn't diminished with wear.

In short they are a very well made shoe that will last a long time, so if you like a stiff shoe and can cope with changing your socks regularly (which is good practice anyway) then these are for you.

Great, a true all rounder Reviewed By , 26 Feb 2012

I bought these last July for a 3+ weeks holiday in USA. Current 'summer' boots too big for packing and too hot for California. So these had to be capable of more than one role i.e. Travelling in, Trail walking and city streets. Best buy I've made in years. They were tough enough for the trails of Yosemite and Lake Tahoe, cool in the heat and fine in the rain with good grip. They were also 'cool' enough for the streets, galleries and bars of San Fran. I even wore them on both (10 hr) flights and they're ok for driving in. In fact I virtually lived in them for 3 weeks. They've been great in the Shropshire hills last autumn, and for going to the pub. The staff at Cotswold's Shrewsbury store were incredibly patient with their help and advice while sorting through several alternatives (a rare commodity these days). The facility to exchange a purchase after I had tried them out at home (on carpet) was most helpful and determined my choice of the Scarpa. Excellent product and excellent service.
