The iconic all-purpose mountain boot that bridges the gap between heavy-duty backpacking and general mountaineering.   Ideally suited to hill, mountain and glacier walking on rugged terrain and the occasional easier alpine and UK winter climb, Scarpa's Manta excels in winter walking, where crampons are used for extended periods.   By using the Vibram Jorasses sole unit and pro-fiber midsole, close to a staggering 10% weight loss has been achieved over the previous incarnation of the Manta. Additionally, this means the boot has been lowered, making it more dexterous and stable underfoot. Despite the weight reduction, a generous rubber rand has been added, which adds the protection and abrasion resistance essential for rocky scrambles.

tough and comfortable Reviewed By emily, 20 Mar 2011

A classic winter boot which even for a first time winter expedition is easy to wear and comfortable. The manta is easy to fit crampons to and as a reasonably lightweight boot it is easy to wear for the long walk in. If you going for a first winter walk i'd recommend wearing these out and about for a few day walks to get used to walking in a rigid boot and not suffer ankle ache when it matters.
A worthy investment.
