If you are just starting out on your winter climbing adventures, then the Hornets are well worth a look. Simple, reliable, using T-rated construction and a curved shaft to reach round bulges and avoid bashing your knuckles, it's a great tool for beginners to develop their skills.

The Hornet is completed by a sturdy rubber grip and an excellent leash.

great begginers axe
Reviewed By Bart, 17 Feb 2015

This is a great beginners axe, winter climbing isn't everyones cup of tea so whats the point in spending up to £300 on a new pair of really decent tools when you might do it once a week each year? Sure there are better axes out there, but id say go for these, use them for a couple of years and by then you will know what qualities you want in an axe and will get the ideal one for you. NOT what everyone else thinks is good. The axe is perfectly functional - the thing that I noticed when using them was just how bad the included leash is! It is truly useless.
