A classic Berghaus walking jacket, the RG1 is cut in a tough, waterproof and breathable fabric and represents fantastic value for such a high quality, dependable weatherproof garment.

With your hands thrust deep in the pockets and the hood pulled in tight, the RG1's rugged AQ2 fabric shrugs off the worst of the weather and, as well as keeping the elements from getting in, it allows unwanted moisture to get out, keeping you comfortable in all conditions. In fairer weather, the hood rolls easily and neatly into the collar.

An all-round waterproof shell for town and country, the RG1 has you covered.

Incredible value Reviewed By Owen, 12 Jun 2013

This jacket has always kept me dry, from wet weekends in the Lakes, downpours at Glastonbury, or just walking to the office.

Incredible value for the price. Had it over 2 years now, still watertight with a few TechWashes, although the zip is now a bit stiff from overuse.

Mesh lined so not sticky if its hot and wet, plus lightweight enough to stuff in my pack just in case.

The only downside, it could do with a peak on the hood to keep the rain directly out your face.

Overall very impressed, and a great price for a good name.

Superb quaility and reliability hasn't let me down Reviewed By Joshua, 08 Mar 2013

I first bought this jacket for my D of E Gold expedition and was very impressed, it took everything that was thrown at it, including keeping me dry for about 9/10 hours in the pouring rain!
Since then I have re-profed it twice (using Nikwax) and the level of water profing is still unbeatable.
It is also windproof which is a great advantage and has tapered seams so the wind doesn't get through the gaps.
The only downside to this jacket is that it is not as breathable as some of its competors, but I have only found this a problem when doing strenious excercise mainly cycling. But I have only found this on the rare ocassion.
The jacket is also light enough and packs down small enough that it easily fits into any rucksack without a noticable difference to the weight.
In all this is an exllent jacket suitable for all conditions at levels from novice walkers to advanced hickers. If you want a entry level jacket that will not let you down, this is the one for you!

Quality jacket at a good price. Reviewed By Mark, 28 Feb 2013

Ordered in store for delivery. Purchaed 2 for my youngsters who will use this them during their Scouting activities.
These are hard wearing and offer fairly good protection from the rain and wind.

Good overall jacket Reviewed By Adam, 02 Feb 2013

I'v had this jacket for about 2 years now and it has seen a lot of use out in the good old British weather. The quality of this jacket is excellent as you expect from Berghaus. It is fully wind proof and breathable however it is not an ideal jacket for prolonged heavy rain as the fabric begins to 'wet out' (the fabric begins to soak up water) fairly quickly . the jacket is still waterproof however most if not all breath-ability is lost so you start to become damp from your own sweat. The jacket is still excellent for everyday wear commuting to and from work/college etc. and will still shrug off most rain. Washing and re-waterproofing the jacket regularly (using Nikwax or similar) will help maintain performance however a fabric such as Gore-Tex will be miles better for serious use in heavy rain. The hood on this jacket is good however there is no peak so water just runs straight into your eyes. There could have done with being more pockets as I tend to carry a lot of stuff while walking and the zips for the pockets are small meaning they are very difficult to use while wearing gloves. Overall this is a good jacket for everyday wear however not ideal for serious wet weather.

Perfect starters jacket Reviewed By Iain, 04 Nov 2012

This coat is a wonderful jacket for entry level walkers and experts or just for staying dry around town. The stowaway hood is a little bulky but the RG1 finish works a treat and is super breathable.

Excellent Jacket, Excellent price Reviewed By Andy, 21 Oct 2012

I went with the intention of purchasing the Mens High Trails IA Jacket, on offer at present for 130 reduced from 230. I saw this and was torn between them, I decided to go for this for 3 main reasons.

1: This jacket comes in XXXL size
2: Good for everyday use as well as walking holidays
3: The price

For a great well rounded jacket, choose the RG1

I bought a gent's jacket for the extra width and it's just the job - keeps me dry and warm and has the advantage of being lightweight.

Great "summer" jacket Reviewed By Ron, 27 Aug 2012

I bought this jacket as a summer waterproof - I have the heavy duty jacket for the winter...
Horses for Courses is the description here - it is not intended as a winter jacket, so isn't one, but is superb as a general purpose, lightweight summer jacket!
At the end of the day is is a quality Berghaus product!

Suits me just fine... Reviewed By Felix, 21 Jul 2012

I bought this jacket for a weekend trip to the Lake District, and for me it was a brilliant jacket. It fits well over several layers of clothing and I can't say that it has ever leaked on me, although if I were to put it through more serious tests than I have done this fact may change. One of the other things that I like about this jacket is its simplicity, although its lack of chest pocket was something I have found annoying. For the money I had and the things I needed it for, it has served me well through all that the British weather has so far thrown at me.

Disappointing - not a serious outdoors jacket Reviewed By Graham, 01 May 2012

It looks great and I was chuffed at first for the price, however after a few uses it's been leaking in the wet. I spoke to the store staff and it seems the waterproofing that makes rain bead off the jacket goes quickly and when this happens it doesn't breath properly. In my case this led to perspiration that made the inside and me wet. The staff at teh store also advised it has a hydrostatic head (waterproof rating) of 10,000 against 25,000 to 30,000 for Goretex jackets. Wish I'd done more research before buying. Great for Friday night trips to teh pub, not much use for serious outdoors walking on hills/mountains!

Not a serious hillwalking jacket Reviewed By Chris, 19 Apr 2012

I've owned an RG1 for about a year and it is fine as an every day jacket to wear to work, in town or on a gentle country walk. Don't buy one expecting the Berghaus name to mean it's a serious hillwalking jacket, however. Although it's waterproof and windproof, the fabric is simply not breathable enough for strenuous hillwalking. The hood is also a major disappointment, it has no peak to stop rain getting in your eyes and does not offer nearly enough protection against wind and rain coming from the sides. The lack of pockets is also a drawback: there are two mesh lined handwarmer pockets but nowhere to stash a map. Overall, fine for the high street, poor out on the hills.

Not bad... Reviewed By G, 08 Apr 2012

The jacket is cheap compared to the other ones available. For my trip, it did its job. Very rarely did any water touch my upper body when it started to rain, and although its main feature is that its waterproof, it also keeps you warm if you have one or two layers on. The coat comes with pockets and a useful hood if you don't have a hat. Overall, a good product, which does its job

Versatile waterproof jacket. Reviewed By Franc, 29 Feb 2012

This is a very good waterproof and windproof jacket. It comes with a hood which can be stowed away in the collar and is also hard wearing. It can be used over a t-shirt in warmer weather and works well with a fleece mid layer when temperature drops. It is a simple design so won't look out of place walking down the high street, would recommend this product for day to day use. This jacket is made from aquafoil which is fine in the rain however if you are looking for a better water resistant jacket would suggest paying more for a Gortex or event fabric jacket.

Well you get what you pay for... Reviewed By Thomas, 05 Mar 2011

The first thing to say about this jacket is that it is not expensive. Any 'waterproof' for £40 will not be waterproof for long or at all. However this jacket is not bad. I have had one for just over a year now and it has only leaked on me once. It dissapointingly quickly looses its 'beading' ability or teflon coating, however it continuse to be water proof. In addition to this the fabric is very windproof. I recently took this jacket to edale and spent a weekend walking around mam tor. It rained solidly for over 29 hours. On the first day we walked for around 17 miles and after 2 hours of rain it stopped 'beading'. after 9 hours it started to soak through the main zip and through the pockets. However at the end of the walk it was only those three areas that had leaked. Never the less there are some major draw backs. the first and foremost being that this jacket is not breatheable, or at least not breathable enough... I found that on the hill even when it was hammering down walking up hill was too hot for this jacket. Also it only has two pockets that are poorly placed if you are wearing a waistbelt and the zippers are very small and smooth making them impossible to use if wearing gloves.

Overall i would not recommend this ja
