The Renegade GTX is a firm favourite for day hiking, backpacking and short expeditions because of the phenomenal comfort, support and cushioning it offers.

The soft, nubuck leather upper is lined with Gore-Tex, making it not only flexible but fully waterproof. Because the lining is seamless, the risk of hot spots and blisters is reduced and mid height ankle support ensures a secure fit. A new midsole construction means that the boot is even more lightweight whilst retaining important stability. The climate control footbed keeps feet at a comfortable temperature and improves breathability.

The Renegade GTX also features a robust but flexible Vibram sole, providing support and absorbing impact on every step. The derby style lacing meaning that you can customise the boot to suit your foot shape.

Very comfortable!
Reviewed By Stewart, 06 May 2015

These are the most comfortable boots that I have ever worn, great for town or country. My first pair split though after only 16 months but Cotswold replaced them without quibble. Best to go to Store Manager as Customer Services create a lot of red tape! Not sure the boots would stand up to serious and sustained mountain environments though. As hiking or approach boots they are superb!

Be Careful
Reviewed By Edward, 01 May 2015

Look well made. This is a wide boot especially around the ankle. If you have wide feet and narrow ankles your foot will rock to and fro on rough ground - with painful results. This happened to me. The only boot or walking/running shoe I have ever returned. Returned to Cotswolds with no problems. Thanks Cotswolds.

It's Cotswold's service that makes the difference
Reviewed By Steve, 24 Apr 2015

I only bought these recently, (March 2015), so it's too early to review these adequately. All I can say is that the fit is excellent, (I have wide feet and bunnions!), they offer good support on variable terrain and they are incredibly light. I still use Meindl Burma Pro's for heavy, winter use, but the Lowas are ideal if you also like to have a much lighter weight boot for use in less-challenging conditions.
Get the proper Nikwax Nubuck protector for these, not the leather wax - these are Nubuck and that's why Nikwax make a specific Nubuck product.
I did have an issue as to why Cotswold don't stock this, and wrote a pretty grumpy-old-man email to them about it. Their customer service were superb, they sorted some out for me - they even phoned me to talk the whole issue through.
Definitely beyond the call of duty.
Combined with their excellent fitting service - and you really do need to use this when buying any boot/shoe - I now would not now use any other outdoor retailer. I know that seems obsequious, but it's only when you get a problem that you realise the value of good customer service.
(I still think they should stock the Nikwax Nubuck Protector though!)

Comfortable, Good Looking Boot
Reviewed By David, 21 Jan 2015

Having had these boots just over a year using them in a variety of conditions and terrain I feel it's about time I shared my experiences.
These boots are wide fitting, and provide out of the box comfort, good grip in most conditions and terrain.
The only real downside I have experienced that twice in heavy rain my feet became wet!
I couldn't work out how they were letting water in. I put my feet in a trough of shallow water and sure enough they stayed dry. The conclusion was that unless you are wearing waterproof over trousers or gaiters the boots soak up water through the synthetic ankle cuffs. My observation is that these already very good boots could be improved by making the tongue integral all the way up the lacing system, rather than a third of the way. This would alleviate water ingress from wet trousers if you get caught in a downpour without your over trousers!

A Great Pair of Boots
Reviewed By John, 07 Dec 2014

I'm 64 years old and I've being waiting all my life for boots like these. So comfortable to wear for long periods in town or on the hills. Recently I was caught in several heavy downpours but my socks were bone dry. I have found that they grip wet surfaces really well. I have a pair of Lowa walking shoes but these boots are even better.
Yes, they are relatively expensive, but as far as I am concerned, they are worth every penny.
The Cotswold staff at my local shop in Belfast were very helpful when making the purchase.

great boot

just bought these today, very comfy, easy to lace,
right out of box and a 20 mile hike, no problems with boots, great grip. very satisfied . well worth the money, hope i still say this in two years time.

Superb Boots
Reviewed By Andy, 02 Jun 2014

Bought a pair from the Cirencester branch. Received excellent advice from the team and was able to make an exchange when I found the first pair just a little too tight when wearing my thicker socks.
The boots have now been tested in the Yorkshire Dales and stood up well. As other reviewers have commented, they really are comfortable and not too heavy. I found no problem with the grip downhill but the tracks were dry. It'll be interesting to see how they fare in the wet. The soles are nicely rigid which, combined with the mid-height ankle cover, gave me just the support I was seeking over rough ground.
No real downsides except perhaps the lacing. It's awkward getting the laces under the bottom pair of metal hooks. Or, is that just my old eyes?
In summary: great boots and a superb buying experience. I'll be going back ...

Excellent all round boots
Reviewed By Martin, 09 Dec 2013

I have just bought my 4th. pair of these boots which I wear for at least 2 hours every day on the Lake District fells. The fact that they're my 4th. pair speaks for itself, I would recommend them to anyone and the staff at the Keswick branch are great.

Comfortable but poor grip on wet surfaces
Reviewed By John, 19 Nov 2013

I bought a pair of these boots in June and walked extensively in them. It's true they are comfortable out of the box. They're stylish too - you could wear them down the pub. I have found, however, that on wet surfaces I slip around far more than in any other pair of boots I've owned. I suspect that the problem is that there is very little spacing between the tread on the vibram sole so it easily gets clogged up. So, in short, excellent in warm weather but I don't recommend these in the Cotswolds in November!

Best Boots i've ever worn
Reviewed By Ian, 11 Nov 2013

I bought these boots just before setting off up Blencathra... in the snow.
These boots are ridiculously comfy, didn't feel them at all.
They are waterproof to a crazy extent aswell, as i noticed walking through the mountain rivers.
The grip that these soles give is astonishing.
Walking on ice without a problem, and walking through thick snow as if it was tarmac!

After climbing Blencathra, with a single pair of cheap socks, i realised just how fantastic these boots were.
They did not fail in any way, nor do they look bruised.

To be able to climb Blencathra in a pair of boots that haven't even been worn in yet, and have NO blisters is just beautiful.

These boots are the best quality boots i've ever worn. They're built like tanks, but are comfy as slippers.

Fantastic boots
Reviewed By Dick, 08 Jul 2013

I'd just spent 10 days walking the Camino in Northern Spain in my 20 year old leather boots which gave me loads of blisters. I spent a couple of visits to the store to talk about my requirements, the staff were brilliant (esp Jez Islington) and tried a few pairs on. My first walk was a five hour gentle hike and not a single blister. Worth every penny - though I did originally look at some far cheaper ones.

Reviewed By PAUL, 16 Apr 2013

These boots are very comfortable from the off and require no breaking in. The leather is very soft, how hard wearing only time will tell.walking through streams and feet still bone dry.
I decided on this boot after reading previous reviews, as i was given no advice whatsoever on what boot to buy from staff in shop, nor any foot measuring service offered.

wide fitting but not baggy
Reviewed By Robert, 26 Mar 2013

The top arch of my feet are quite high which restricts the range of boots I can get my feet into. Unfortunately when I do find boots with enough height it is often too high which causes the boot near the bottom lacing to collapse and press on my toes. So far the only option is to wear baggy boots but insert extra insoles to reduce some of the volume.I have now bought my first Lowa boots which have plenty of height but not prone to collapsing over the toes. Also the back of the shoe fits well around the heal stopping movement which can also be a problem with "wide fitting" boots. Overall a very well fitting boot.

Very comfortable well fitting boot
Reviewed By D, 25 Feb 2013

I normally have a lot of trouble finding a boot that fits well and is comfortable for all day walking. Tried various boots in the shop and liked many styles, but these felt perfect from the first moment putting them on, so much so I really didn't want to get back in my shoes to leave the shop. Excellent fitting service from shop and will report back after walking Inca Trail later this year ...

Excellent walking boot.
Reviewed By Simon, 23 Feb 2013

Purchased these boots today with excellent advice & attention to my size & requirements from your staff member in the Belfast Castle Lane store. Went straight home & out for a long walk with the dog over mixed terrain, a combination of very muddy & very rocky! Boots were really comfortable right out of the box & proved to be very supportive with great sole structure for such a light feeling boot, no problems protecting my feet while carrying my 13.5 stone over very stony ground. Bought the boots for mountain walking & am confident they will deal with all terrains & conditions. Best boots I have owned & I've been walking 35 years.

Super comfy boots!

Love these boots; bought them a few months ago for a trip to Scotland. Really comfortable straight out of the box and kept my feet dry. Bit of an investment but worth it when you think how long they should last! Love my Lowas!

This is a real find. My first new boots in 14 years and a real treat for the feet. Highly recommended.

Awesome boot, great fit and comfort!
Reviewed By Ben, 02 Oct 2012

Recently bought these boots after eyeing them up for some time as a replacement for my old raichle boots! Tried them on in store with the guys there being extremely helpful and informative about these boots and other alternatives. I found the lowas incredibly comfortable, so much that after I choose to purchase them I ditched my trainers straight away to wear them straight out of the shop. A quick hike in mid wales an hour later revealed no problems, just an superbly made and comfortable pair of boots!
