The Lhotse Jacket thrives on the most serious mountain challenges

Rated BEST IN TEST by Trail Magazine in their November 2014 Group Test of Top-End Waterproof Jackets.

Mountain Equipment's Lhotse Jacket thrives on the most serious mountain challenges; from deep Scottish gullies to the forbidding south face of the mountain after which it is named. It may look simple, but the engineering behind the Lhotse is quite remarkable.

The latest Gore-Tex Pro fabric is specifically engineered for the most demanding of conditions. It is up to 28% more breathable than what went before but without any compromise of waterproofing, and it's ridiculously durable. The alpine fit has a tailored shape that eliminates bagging and billowing fabric but, as it's a serious mountain jacket, it still delivers excellent freedom of movement.

Of course, the Lhotse has a hood which offers excellent protection, whether or not you're wearing a helmet, and it has a set of pockets that will devour anything you need to hastily stow or keep to hand.

The jacket is an excellent jacket for keeping dry when climbing, mountaineering and hillwalking. The cut is excellent when wearing a climbing harness.
The hood could maybe be a little bigger for a climbing helmet (or maybe I need a smaller lid). The Gore-Tex Pro fabric feels a little "rustley" which maybe not suit everyone (I've worn other fabrics that feel lighter/nicer but the G-T Pro obviously feels very hard-wearing).

Great fit
Reinforced fabric on high wear areas only, keeping weight down but maintaining durability
Brilliant hood design: plenty of volume for a helmet, but still adjusts tight when not wearing one.
internal pocket for electricals is a nice touch.
Nothing - ideal for what what it's designed for

Quality is awesome but I ordered the wrong size, hence the slightly lower scores on fit and comfort, I marked it down because the lengths seem to be OK but it's a very petite sizing, probably good for thin, wirey climbers. Very light, really well detailed. I was sooo disappointed I couldn't put it on and go for a walk. I'm doing an international return so I'm hoping it all goes well.
The shoulder panel is continuous from the neck down the arm, if you drop your arm, this panel has to stretch over the tip of your shoulder which then pulls up under your arm. I ordered the medium, the lengths are all Ok but across the chest and under the arm is too tight, so I have to go up a size. I'm sure there's a reason and I think most jackets are made this way but in the picture I saw it looks like the chest panel goes over the shoulder with an arm piece, but it's not like that. I think climbers will like the design as it is. Put all your winter layers on before measuring your chest size.
