Seriously warm and resilient mid layer

A simple synthetic jacket that's perfect for walkers and mountaineers needing a seriously warm and resilient mid layer. Layering perfectly under a shell in the worst conditions, the Mountain Equipment Men's Rampart Jacket is also warm and windproof when worn alone in less severe weather. Drying rapidly and packing down to practically nothing, it is especially well suited to those heading into cold, damp environments.

Warm but light. Packs down well.
Reviewed By Joe, 12 Feb 2014

Bought this principally to go under a waterproof jacket for wearing when I drive a scooter to work. This jacket is surprisingly warm given the weight and thickness and it packs down to a very small size. With a waterproof shell over the top it is possibly as warm as my (very) old Rab down jacket, but without the bulk. Nice colour, only downside is the fabric seems to pick up dirt quite well. It is machine washable but haven't tried that yet. A good alternative to down.

Really Useful Jacket
Reviewed By Brian, 11 Feb 2014

Pro's
Excellent warmth to weight ratio.
Packs down small.
Light and flexible to wear.
First class wind resistance and water shedding
Layers well.

Cons
Zip bursts open from the bottom sometimes;
I think a two way zip would have been more appropriate for this garment.
I personally find the neck drawcord totally superflous and wonder if it is just there for show!
I think a micro-fibre lining on the inside of the collar would have made the jacket better.

Summary
An excellent jacket. Good value for money!
I have worn mine almost continously since the Autumn.
The absence of collar lining and two way zip do seem to indicate the jacket is giving a nod to looks at the expense of function.

Great Jacket

Really good jacket, really water resistant and windproof. Lovely and warm even wet, and so light.

Would recommended to anyone.
