One of Páramo’s best sellers, the Velez Smock uses the renowned Páramo twin-zip design to provide effective ventilation and temperature control during high-energy outdoor activities, and to complement the excellent breathability of the Nikwax Analogy waterproof fabric.

Using a water repellent, windproof outer with a 'pump liner', Analogy constantly moves water away from the body to the outside of the garment. This means you have waterproof performance without a bonded membrane, so breathability is not hindered. In the Velez, this innovative fabric is cut in a versatile smock design, with inner pockets accessible from the outside due to the placement of the zips, and great freedom of movement thanks to the articulated sleeves and shoulders. The low profile, adjustable hood is removable, creating a cleaner outline.

A true all-rounder, the Velez is a great performer, on and off the hill.

Fabulously versatile
Reviewed By Mary, 07 Oct 2014

Warmth, breathability and waterproof providing you wash regularly and reproof annually. It breathes well and vents via side zips really well. Layer up under when it is cold or wear with baselayer alone in spring and autumn, a fabulous design and easily the best waterproof membrane around.

Superb Jacket (Smock)
Reviewed By Ian, 09 Jan 2014

Without doubt, the best jacket I have ever owned.
I struggled to believe that a jacked with so soft an outer layer could be waterproof, but after a couple of years I am convinced. It has never let me down yet and I have been out in some atrocious weather. It is also unbelievably breathable, with great venting. My only quibble, is the hood. Brilliant when fastened up, however I find it can be annoying to fasten the 'poppers' whilst wearing gloves in a strong wind. Would prefer a 'grown on hood', with zipper.

The Best Jacket I Have Ever Had. Bar None!
Reviewed By Andy, 03 Nov 2013

My Velez has been with me through every silly sport I throw my poor body into. It performs equally brilliantly when canoeing, kayaking and rock climbing - all sports that I am an instructor in. And also when I run, bike - my family have no car so cycling in poor weather is not an option - and the coat keeps on performing.
It is now my go-to coat as a countryside ranger.
Features / Best bits: The 'kangaroo' chest pocket is superb, OS map sized with ease, also comfortably swallows all sorts of tools and bits and bobs for fixing practically anything in my outdoor jobs life. Handy hint here: the lining folds out completely as it is not stitched in so you can empty out all the grit, sand, saw dust, wood chip, pencil lead, squirrels, paper clips and whatever else gets lost in there!
Ventilation or bad weather lock down. When it's hot I unzip the two (massive) side zips. Pull down the top zip and roll up the oversized cuffs to create stacks of ventilation. Really, it is a ridiculous amount!
People criticise them as being 'too warm' I have never found that. And when the weather comes in I button / zip up side zips and chest - neck, pull in the hood, heave on the draw cords and carry right on.
The hood is unobtrusive a securely stowed when out the way, and unobtrusive and securely on when being worn. Good wired visor that keeps my glasses pretty dry too.
Reflective detail is in sensible and comfortable positions, all zip pulls are subtly different so you know what you are pulling at without having to pay much attention to it. Every adjustment operates perfectly well one-handed so I can keep on paddling my canoe, or hanging off a cliff and be in full control of my coat!
The thermal and insulation layers that make up the rest of the Paramo System are also fantastic, though not sold by Cotswold I would recommend highly the use of Icebreaker as a fine match for Paramo instead. My 260 weight and Velez rarely get separated in the winter.
Fantastic gear. As you may have guessed, I love love LOVE it!
Six Stars!

Want to love it but yet to be convinced.
Reviewed By Steve, 28 Oct 2013

I have found that Paramo is a bit like hillwalking marmite. You love it or hate it. Having friends who were in both camps, I decided to try it for myself. I do like the jacket, ir fits well, is comfortable to wear and the two side zips allow for efficient venting. However, I'm not yet convinced by the waterproofness. Typically I have bought one in the best summer we had for years, but in recent weeks have worn it a couple of times on wet autumnal days. Maybe I'm looking for problems but if I know the weather is going to be very wet, I often find myself picking my old Lowe Alpine Triple point waterproof off the hanger rather than fully trust this. One day I will man up and put this to the test in some really wet weather and know knows it might even perform and get more stars from me, but for now I'm sitting on the fence!
