Having seen pre-release reviews I decided the Tikka RXP would be ideal for me and placed it on order at Cotswold, City Centre Belfast. An opportunity to say the staff in this store are always magnificent, great updates and I particularly found their enthusiasm for this product infectious. I do long distance trails and want to continue through winter but on a bad day in Scotland you are looking at 6 hours of daylight max and that makes say 20 miles difficult. I plan to go away in Jan for a 100 mile 'easy' trail but the challenge will be weather, daily distance targets and light. Also in between times I have a choc lab that demands 3 walks a day. So far all my usage has been dog walking - it is amazing how many people you come across in a forest at night in pitch black and so far I have dazzled quite a few!! This product is a revolution over previous types I owned. The predictive mode works perfectly - without you noticing, it adjusts to exactly the right beam as you move around; the brightness options also provide as much light as you need. The rechargeable function is a massive relief and if you use it a lot will pay back the greater purchase expense in not having to replace batteries; it does mean having to carry some means to recharge on long travels but for me this is simply a plug with a USB port - doubles for my phone and MP3. It's really holding its charge though. Haven't been out yet in more than a shower and slightly concerned that it may not be totally waterproof - need reassurance I guess. The only mild fluster is the switch-on. According to the leaflet you push the button down for 3 seconds but it always takes a few goes before it properly kicks in … a moment of panic may occur the first time you do this as it switches on dim but then brightens in a moment or two. Already it has become one of my favourite possessions with cool looks, spectacular performance and very importantly a comfortable strap and cushioning on the forehead - just about every walker, runner and strange person who I’ve seen stumbling in the woods has told me they are dropping hints to their friends and relatives for a Christmas present!!!
