Product Information

Fit, performance, protection

The Men's Baltoro Alpine jacket is a highly breathable, wind and water resistant softshell jacket. This mid weight softshell from Rab is ideal for climbing and mountaineering, utilising Polartec Power Shield Fabric to offer the best combination of fit, performance and protection.

The spec reads like an Alpinists check list: Helmet compatible hood, tick! Adjustable cuffs and hem, tick! Two zipped chest pockets, tick! Highly breathable and water resistant fabric, big tick! The velour backed fabric provides just enough warmth to ward off early morning chill making the Baltoro Alpine Jacket ideal for spring and autumn conditions when it may be just too cool for a light fleece but conditions don't call for a full hard shell.

Henley-on-Thames Enthusiast
A good tough technical jacket with excellent water resistance, a scratch resistant outer shell and a flexible warm fabric. It feels a lot tougher than a fleece.
The hood adjusts well, which is useful as it is cut to fit over a helmet and I don't wear one for rowing.
The jacket fits pretty closely but has enough room on me to allow a couple of thinner layers underneath and I can wear a hard shell waterproof on top.
Particularly good value for money as I got it in the sale. Less good VFM at full list price.
The arms are a bit long, as meant for climbing where you have to stretch a good deal. This is also good for rowing but if you buy the jacket for general use.
The hood is quite large and can interfere with a shoulder bag or rucksack. It would have been better with a tape up velcro or something.

Durable fabric, lightweight for warmth it provides, comfortable and good features.
Stockier build may find sleeves slightly too long when purchase correct size that copes with broad shoulders - not too long to be a major issue.
