Stunningly lightweight alpine-style jacket

A stunningly lightweight alpine-style jacket, the Rab Mens Spark Jacket protects you from the worst weather, but takes up next to no space in your pack.

Ideal for active use in all weathers, the Spark is constructed from Pertex Shield+, a waterproof and breathable fabric from the legendary Pertex stable. No stranger to the world of high performance lightweight fabrics, Pertex have taken things a step further by engineering Shield+ with stretch. Rab then combined this stretch with a free moving cut, to make the Mens Spark Jacket perfect for the needs of the Alpinist - as well as for the needs of anybody who wants to enjoy unrestricted movement!

Also catering for the mountain enthusiast is the helmet-compatible hood, and the generously sized pockets are positioned to be accessible when you're clad in a harness, as well as being mesh lined to function as vents.

All this in a jacket which weighs less than half a pint of water!

10 Customer reviews for this product

Although many of the reviews on here say don't wear this is you're planning on walking with heavy packs, I have completed four day expeditions in the rain, sleet and snow in this jacket and remained absolutely bone dry, in fact I was the only one in the group to remain completely dry and there were people there wearing paramo!!

i thought cotswolds had sent me the wrong thing as the parcel was so small!

Excellent light weight waterproof jacket
Reviewed By David, 30 Aug 2014

I got this jacket from the Belfast City Centre store and the woman at the till was very nice and polite and she gave me some excellent advice about packing the coat and also warning about not to wear big heavy rucksacks with this coat as it may wear the shoulders; excellent customer service, I left pleased!

The coat itself is incredibly light, it's a joy to wear! I might not recommend the coat to someone who was going to be in the mountains a lot in heavy rain with heavy bags, the material is quite thin and not sure how durable it would be under this kind of stress, a gore tex jacket would probably be more recommended. This magic material however is still awesome, it's quite thin but still 100% waterproof and windproof while being super light, because it's so light and thin, it's really easy to pack in a bag! The hood is an excellent job and easy to adjust on the fly when it starts to bucket, not worn it with a helmet yet but I'm confident it will be ample enough to allow so and keep the weather out. The two pockets are nice, easy to use with one hand, I wouldn't fill them with loads of stuff though because this will make the jacket heavy and it weighs it down and they're not massive pockets. Not sure how long the pockets would remain waterproof in a heavy shower (I've heard complaints before about Rab coat chest pockets leaking) but I was out for half an hour in heavy rain with no problems! Great fit on the coat, nice and slim. The arms are a tiny bit long on me, not sure if this is intended or I have short arms, but I suppose this will be handy for active use like biking and climbing since these are the intended uses of the jacket.

Overall I am very pleased with the jacket and would recommend.

Perfect ultra-light weight shell
Reviewed By Daniel, 28 May 2014

I purchased this jacket during 40 year anniversary with 40% off the normal price. I have heavier winter waterproofs, down jackets etc but they are a bit much for summer adventures. I have also coupled this up with a RAB softshell and over a buffalo shirt for colder trips but it is an outstanding waterproof shell that can worn alone over a base layer for those high activity or warmer days when the heavens open. It really does weigh next to nothing and takes up very little room in your day pack and has amazing water shedding properties - all in all a great little performer that comes highly recommended!

Quality and Stylish
Reviewed By Darren, 16 Feb 2014

I bought this as I was after a quality lightweight, windproof, rainproof jacket, at the same time looking stylish.

I am a large and the fit is spot on, the wired hood is great for keeping the rain off and the wind out, I got caught in a heavy downpour the other day and the jacket repelled the water with ease.

I bought the blue which is very striking and for me more on trend than basic black or grey.

In short, great jacket, very lightweight and fashionable, well worth the money.

Amazing fit
Reviewed By Ben, 29 Jun 2013

I purchased this jacket to use as a shell over my Rab Microlight Alpine jacket (another fantastic layer) for a kilimanjaro climb this year. I've heard that Rab tailor each of their items to fit over another one of their layers e.g. the sleeves are cut longer to retain amazing movement whilst wearing in conjunction with my mid and base layers. I have used this already in a downpour and the water just beaded then rolled off and when i was caught in a sudden patch of sunlight the breathability of this jacket kicked in instantly! Great Jacket, strongly recommended!!

This jacket is light and stretchy, giving you plenty of movement. It's the lightest waterproof I have owed, it can pack away very small so perfect for one of those days when it can be sunny and showers .

Light but tough piece of kit,
Reviewed By Henry, 25 Apr 2013

Weighing in at 260g (Large) this the lightness of the coat is what first hit me when trying it on in the shop. The Velcro cuffs and wired peak are also very well done on this outstanding jacket. Everything is great and several tough days on a rainy/foggy Dartmoor were no problem with this.
