The Salomon Men's X Ultra Mid GTX is a stable and protective lightweight, mid-height hiking shoe with Gore-Tex weather protection and an aggressive grip for all terrains.

The non-marking Contagrip outsole delivers optimal traction on varied surfaces by utilising a combination of specialised rubbers for each specific use so that you can trust your boots to keep you on your feet. The Advanced Chassis sits between the outsole and the midsole and maximises motion control, energy management and push through protection for an efficient, stable and responsive ride to ensure you get the most out of your gait. To ensure you get the best fit from your boot Salomon have created a Sensifit system which works to cradle your foot, this gives a precise and secure fit.

Comfortable straight out the box
Reviewed By James, 18 Jun 2013

I've had a lot of problems over the years finding shoes and boots that were comfortable for my awkward feet, and Salomon have consistently been the only thing that were totally comfortable for me, and these boots are no exception. The fit is spot on for me, comfortable straight out of the box, and the ortholite insoles make it a more comfortable footbed than standard insoles. I have out-turned feet which don't seem to be able to cope with a high ankle boot which forces you to walk slightly differently, so these are the perfect compromise for me, high enough to offer some ankle protection and waterproofing with the goretex lining (the height also making them work well with gaiters), but low enough to allow me enough ankle mobility to walk naturally. Sizings seem to be fairly consistent as I have been a size 9 in every other pair of Salomons I have owned and fortunately the same was true in this case, I ordered size 9 and they are spot on for me, although I am often a size 8 in other manufacturer's footwear so if you've not owned a pair of Salomon's before you may want to try something in store first as I guess they must come up a little small compared to other brands. I've not abused these boots in heavy weather yet so can't comment on their long term durability but I have no doubt they will serve me well
