After reading a few reviews online, I decided to drive down to the South Cerney to get fitted. Also, I took my Salomon Speedcross trainers with me too, as there were no longer comfy.
To sort the Speedcross problem, a pair of Superfeet insoles were put into my shoes - they're like magic, I'd never thought of trying an insole - my beautiful Speedcross shoes were back to being amazingly comfy - so much so, I walked for 5 miles afterwards around the Lakes !
Back to the Comet review. Donna, a reviewer, wrote about her small but wide feet. I completely understand the problem. I desperately wanted the Berghaus boots that Peter first had me try on, the grip is sensational, sadly, they were like waders around my arches and heel. I tried on others, like the Lowa (which didn't give me any lateral support) and a pair of Scarpa's (they just felt strange). Anyway, I slipped on the Comet's and they literally fit like a glove - very roomy but lovely grip around the back of my foot & cradles my high arches too.
I haven't been out in them yet, but I've been wearing them for 2 hours already, in the house, and they're still comfy.
The only small groan I can make is that the soles, although pretty grippy, don't have the same depth of ridges as the Berghaus - but you can't have everything !
I really recommend this branch, if you're in the area. All the staff I spoke to were so friendly, polite and more importantly, they know exactly what they're talking about when it comes to shoes and fitting. Yes, you pay a little more in this shop but I don't mind because I feel like I am paying for the service.
