One of the best mountain boots available

Rated BEST IN TEST in the Group Test of Four-Season Boots in the January 2014 issue of Trail Magazine.

Consistently lauded as one of the best mountain boots available, the Scarpa Manta has gone from strength to strength for many years. Now in the guise of the Manta Pro GTX, this version proves Scarpa were not content to rest on their laurels.

The Manta Pro uses lightweight synthetic materials alongside Crosta reversed leather with a Gore-Tex lining to ensure no compromise in protection, while advances in sole technology allow all-mountain support to come from lighter components. Great attention has been paid to the ankle construction, providing the support necessary for a 4-season boot but with greater forward-flex than previous versions: supportive need not mean uncomfortably rigid.

As well as offering the biting tread you'd expect underfoot, the Pentax XT sole unit features a broad, supportive surface at the toe for friction on rocky edges: further evidence of the Manta Pro's mountain credentials.

Grip, friction, support, protection...but lighter and more comfortable. The Manta Pro GTX looks set to receive the same plaudits as its predecessors.

Good winter mountain boots
Reviewed By Caroline, 14 Mar 2014

These are the first winter crampon boots I have brought, and I am very happy with them, very comfortable to wear, especially all day with crampons on. However they are not great on long treks on paths, but they are not designed for that. Great on rocky, craggy ground, and give great support for your feet. Have spend several days in the lakes and a week in Snowdonia in full winter conditions, and they are fantastic for that.

Best boot I have ever worn
Reviewed By John , 27 Dec 2013

I bought these boots in early November and have not had them off my feet for the past couple of months whilst out walking. I have worn the through some of the wettest terrain I have come across in a while standing in up to 10cm of water for at least 5 minutes an no mater what I do with them they never let in a drop have been through mud and snow for hours at a time and without crampons they grip on everything I have stood on (except wet roots but nothing grips on that). I fitted the with Grivel C2 Crampons and the fit was excellent no chance of them coming off by accident. The roller bearing and locking lace system is ingenious and once the grips are unclipped you can step straight into and out of the boot with out having to touch them keeping your hands clean all the while. The best boot I have ever owned.

Superbly comfortable B2 rated boot
Reviewed By Andrew, 27 Dec 2013

It's not all about the snow when you come to choose a pair of winter mountain boots! As strange as this sounds people often forget about comfort and performance on the approach route to the 'white stuff'! In preparing for my last few Quality Mountain Days (QMDs) before I apply for my Winter Mountain Leader Training I trialled these Mantas out on the Tors on my local Dartmoor. I was not disappointed one bit. If you get it wrong on the approach then your feet will suffer but I have no doubt now that I am in for thrills in the snow when I venture up to Scotland next month. My old B1 rated boots were lighter and performed ok on the snow but let me down on approach routes. I am really excited now about getting these Mantas white. My wife will be happy as I will finally stop wearing these around the house wearing the boots in.

in Love already.
Reviewed By , 22 Dec 2013

Well this is my first crampon compatible boot, but i am in love already. Previous to these boot i was wearing a pair of Lowa mountain boots which i bought during my army service, and the Scarpa Manta Pro GTX is amazing compared. I was fairly nervous about the price point but as soon as i tried on this boot i could tell why they were an expensive boot, i tried on a few boots after this but non felt as good this. It felt like i had got out of a Rolls Royce and then jumped back into a Clio.

I haven't taken these boots out on any terrain yet but i know already they are going to be a great boot.

The staff at the Bridgemere store were excellent and i will be going back in the future for more kit.

Best-selling Boot in Scotland is Improved
Reviewed By Victor, 08 Oct 2013

Scarpa once again proves to be a leader in the development and deployment of technological innovation with this latest instalment of the highly-praised Manta series. I purchased the boots little over a month ago and their performance has been fantastic despite the lack of thorough winter testing. They are a significant improvement on the previous model and I would not hesitate to trade up if your older model is weathered or you are in need of a more comfortable all-around boot. They are sturdy and strong, as you would expect and need a B-2 rated boot to be, but flexible and lightweight where you need and want. I have taken them out over varied, hard, and soft terrain, on alpine trails and long mountaineering trips. They are as reliable and waterproofed as you would expect but also very comfortable and breathable in both ascend and descend. The sole, thread, and heel cushion/support are clear improvements. I cannot wait for winter so I can strap some crampons on. Aside from performance, thus far, they are built with quality materials and design that are sure to make the boots last longer but also look much better than the previous model. This is a truly great all-around boot.
